The Outboard Racing Associ- ation, under the leadership of Commodore Otto H. Kniepkamp, is formulating plans to hold four meets at Taylor Lake, one at Tchesinkut Lake, and on June 30, the club will take part in an invitational meet at Ketchi- kan, Alaska. One of Prince Rupert’s most ardent anglers, he was men- tioned by the nativnal pub- lication, Hunting and Fishing in Canada. Dennis is a pipe fitter at the Columbia Cellulose operations, and spends most of his leisure time in the outdoors. Besides the “Utility Boat’ class there are the faster ‘“hydroplanes,” the sleek powerful flatbottomed racers which locally have reach- ed speeds of 70 miles per hour. At present there are 14 com- petitive boats in the club and all but one of them are home built. Members help each other with construction and ‘repairs, and plans are available to any- one wishing to take part in the sport. “A lot of people think that this is a rich man’s sport,” says Ron Stewart. “But this is not so. If it were I wouldn’t be in it.” MUCH HELP Some of the members do not race themselves but take an ac- tive part by working as time- keepers, flagmen and crash boat operators. M. J. Saunders — a non-racing member—is the of- ficial referee at all meets. Mr. Stewart also stresses the safety rules employed by the club and states that racers are automatically disqualified if the craft or driver does not meet the association rules of safety.
