L. Farnsworth of Van- eouver, one of the best known land stakers in the north and largely interested in the Naas river valley, arrived. here on Wednesday with the report that Indians had stolen two valuable eaches, the loss of which com- pelled him, his son, C. W. Farns- worth, and L. C. Angel of Seattle to return to the coast. Last winter Mr. Farnsworth and his son spent in the valley of the Naas and took in on their backs a considerable quantity of supplies, which was relayed from point to point from the foot of Meziadin lake down the Naas. At Eagle creek crossing, three miles north of Cottonwood creek, a tributary of the Naas, he had hung up a cache consisting of 50 Ibs. of flour, 30 Ibs. of salt, 35 Ibs. of Daeon, besides neils, glass and six joints of stove piping. A half mile farther south a second cache was put up, containing 20 Ibs. of cornmeal, 2 cans of dis- secuted potatoes and 1 can of dissecated onions. Returning to the district two weeks ago Mr. Farnsworth and his party natur- ally travelled light, believing their eaches would be found intact. Much to their dismay, both had been robbed completely. Greatly disgusted, the trio, instead of spending a considerable period in the district, were forced to beat a hasty retreat back to Stewart, living on an allowance of one bannock a meal and a little bacon. On his arrival here Mr. Farns- worth laid the matter before Magistrate John Conway, and stated his belief was that an In- dian by the name of Fredericks was responsible for the stealing, The matter is to be investigated by the authorities and an attempt made to stop future depredations, W.
