Meanwhile the work of develop- ing the townsite is going steadily forward, The first clearing con- iracts are nearly completed and preparations have been made for the immediate commencement of street grading and draining op- erations. An additional contract for clearing 700 feet at the east end of the railway has been let by the railway company. This extra yard room is required for the Y. reserve centttanagnee The clearing has made a great improvement in the appearance of the townsite, showing the level character of the ground and al- lowitfg a splendid view in every direction, The business men now on the ground, with Siundreds of others who intend to purchase lots, are anxiously awailing the sale of lots. The marketing of Smithers property will be done in a legitimate manner, however, and until the provincial govern- ment has made its selection of one-fourth of the lois none will be offered to the public. His local head- quarters are at his ranch adjoin- ing the townsite, Mr, Hill has sold his business in Hazelton and will devote all his attention to his local interests, Archie McInnes, of the Pioneer ranch, has returned from the coast with a fine lot of cattle.
