McLEOD (Continued from page 1) tions urging him to remain in Kansas, he entered the University of Chicago in 1903 for post-grad- uate work in history and sociol- ogy. He immediately took charge of a church as student pastor al Elkhorn, Wisconsin, ninety miles from Chicago. This work he carried on in connection with his studies. For .six months of the year he gave his entire time fo the church and during the re mainder of the year he gave the church his services on week ends. It was during this student pastorate in Wisconsin that Mr. McLeod, always a fighter in mora! and social reform issues, organ- ized the city forces and carried to victory a local option cam- paign. The change in conditions was more remarkable from the fact that this town had been a licensed town for twenty-six years, During this campaign Mr. McLeod's life was threatened and the authorities urged him to de- fend himesif against attack. Among the many papers Mr. Mc- Leod has filed away for reference there are none more prized than those appointing him to the po- sition of deputy sheriff at that time. He keeps, too, the gun which more than once protected him from harm, Desiring to spend more time at the university, Mr. MeLeod ac- cepted the urgent call to the Humboldt Park Baptist Chureh of Chicago. This church him the privilege of attending the university during the and they provided an assistant pastor for the pastoral work. He continued this arrangement for three years and only resigned when the University of Chicago asked him to become a fellow history. As fellow he assisted in important investigations eave week, in several in Chicago and in five months’ work in the Provincial libraries of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The reports of this work was received by the university. He resigned from his fellow- ship at the University of Chicago to accept the call of the First Baptist Church at Woodstock, Ontario, the seat of Woodstock Baptist College. Here he had the pleasure of working constantly with the young men of the col lege. A letter to the Canadian Baptist by the vice principal of the college stated that during his first’ year as pastor fifty-six had united with the church, which was the largest number in four- teen years. In response to the urgent licitations of the Baptist Union of Western Canada and the Board of Baptist Missions of British sO Columbia Mr, MeLeod accepted’ a Baptist call to the new church organized in Prinee Rupert. He resigned the pastorate in Wood- stock and his resignation was ac- cepted in August, 1910. He ar. rived in this cily in September, 1910, and has carried forward the Baptist The new chureh building, dedicated this week, is the result of his un- tiring efforts and is a credit to the city. Mr. McLeod has been specially interested in work @mong young men. The Baptist Brotherhood in our city is one of the best or- of kind, It especially enthusiastic in ath- letic work, capturing about 60 per cent. of the first prizes las! field day. Mr. McLeod has con- tinuously urged the city to pro- vide an athletic park and recrea- tion grounds and was appointed work ever since, ganizations its is secretary of the park commis- sioners last year. Mr. McLeod has resigned the pastorate of the church here in order to enter the profession of law. He leaves for Victoria about the first of August to commence his studies, All his friends, and they are many, Wish Mr. MeLeod the of in his new profession, his manly character and vigorous intellect admirably adapt him.
