A joyable concert was given by the musical talent of Seal Cove, assisted by severa! artists: from the city. The program consisted out Peter's most en- of songs by Mrs. McLeod, Mrs. Tattersall, Miss Freeman, Mr. Mellior, Mr. Davis, Mr. Waddell, a duet by Rev. Mr. Rushbrook and Mr. Russell, mandolin solos by Mrs. Freeman and a much appre- ciated Italian quartette. Mrs. Tattersall played the accompani- ments, while Rey. Mr. Rix pre- sided in the absence of Captain McCoskrie. At the close of the program the ladies of the church served refreshments. It was the initiatory meeting of the new Seal Cove reading room and night school. It was explained to the audience that on account of the distance from town and the difficulty of getting in in cold and stormy weather, St. Peter’s Church would be opened every week night, except Saturday, from 7 till 10 o'clock as a reading room. Here could be found the latest magazinés and papers, games could be ins dulged in and occasional lec- tures given. Also under the di- rection of Miss Jackson, the en- thusiastic deaconess at Seal Cove, and in charge of competent in- structors, would be formed in German, French, arithmetic, and bookkeeping. Such an undertaking, with auspicious a beginning, should be a great and if numbers and enthusiasm count then Seal Cove going to give the new venture its loyal support.
