The church had been prettily decorated with autumn leaves and evergreens, and here and there were arrang- ed the usual offerings of fruit and vegetables. Everyone join- ed heartily in the singing of the harvest hymns. The Rey. W. J. H. Petter conducted the service, preaching on the Law of Growth. Owing to the non-arrival of the train from Prince Rupert the lecture on “Socialism,” which was to be given by Rey. F. W. Kerr here on Wednesday evening had to be postponed. A most distressing accident occurred here on Thursday morning when D. B. Kenny, the well-known real estate man who has been running the govern- ment ferry across the slough was drowned. The ferry is worked by means of a cable and the de- ceased was altempting to cut away a log which had become lodged in it, and overbalanced. He was a_e strong swimmer and made a determined effort to reach the shore, but sank before reaching it. His untimely death removes from Terrace a promin- ent and universally respected citizen.
