acquitted by the jury of the
charge of intimidation and of as-
saulting John Thompson at Cum
berland during the recent coal
miners strike. The case went to
the jury at 3.30 yesterday after-
noon and they returned a ver-
dict in about an hour. James and
John Connors were also declared
not guilty of the charge of as-
saulting policeman Hannah.

fierce affray took place yesterday
between the strikers and the po-
lice on the Blackburn sugar es-
tate, fourteen miles north of
here. The police were obliged to
fire several volleys before the
rioters could be quelled, and dur-
ing the firing five East Indians
were killed.

at the meeting of the National
Liberal Federation was eagerly

ers defeated Leach Gross at the
Heron Arena yesterday afternoon
after a full twenty rounds of
fierce fighting. Cross sustained
