DAILY EDITION eng gD According to a Conservative report the government at Ot- tawa will not reintroduce the Naval Bill this session. The reason they give for this is that they fear it would receive the same treatment at the hands of the Senate. Their policy is to wait till the Grim Reaper shall have made room for more Tory senators, and then they can pass any meas- ure they wish unopposed. “Guiet aa The truth of the matter is that the Borden naval policy is not a popular issue in Canada. Indeed there are a great many people whe don’t Want any naval policy, and if the government can succeed in blaming the Liberals for having no policy at all, they hope with one stroke to secure the attachment of those who want a naval policy and those who do not. In other words, the Borden government is afraid to trust the people. The Senate did not oppose the Naval Bill. Their contention was that in view of the strong opposition shown to the bill it should be referred to the people before becoming law. Before and after gaining power Mr. Bor- den himself declared that the people would be given a chance to decide which policy they preferred. Why does he now hesitate? If the Empire is passing through a crucial SHIP YOUR FURS TO ~yshei-3-, 0 lengthen. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1944 stage is he going to defer the assistance of Canada for fear that he may lose power? Liberals believe that there is a constitutional prob- involved. They believe that the Borden poligy is fun- damentally wrong is against the best instincts of nature, and that would be a mistake from start finish. In order to make policy a great success be supported by strong majority of the people. Naval Bill were forced the opposilion it would receive the enthusiastic support that il otherwise Let the question at the polls and Canadians will get line and back up whatever that decision may be. If the gov- ernment refuses to do this and allows the assue to drop when Empire needs our assist- ance they will have condemned themselves in the eyes of fair-minded Britishers. According to reports from council chamber the elec- situation is going to solved by the gods. Nijosh, an Indian trapper, after killing nine of the ravenous ani- nals, expired from sheer ex- haustion and fell a prey to the remainder of the pack, in the Lake of the Woods country last Sunday. This calamity occurred near the Canadian border a few miles from Warroad, on the Canadian Northern railway. Nigosh was returning from hi, traps, a few miles ~up the lake, when he was suddenly attacked by the wolves. He had not time to scale the nearest tree, and consequently was placed at bay, with only a long hunting knife to defend himself. The pack closed on him and one after another he slew them with his weapon until nine were dead at his feet. Exhausted from his efforts he fell an easy prey to the survivors of the pack. Relatives started out to find they found was the bones strip- ped clean of flesh. The nine dead wolves were also found to have been partly devoured. Mayors Elected Vicloria—Alex. PROBABLY FORGOTEN The Bella Coola Courier says: “IL was generally understood that Mr. William Manson was elected on a platform which in- cluded the construction of a wagon road from Bella Coola to Tatla Lake. “This is a matter which has evidently been forgotten. We have refrained from referring to it, and only do so now at the re- quest of our Conservative friends who are anxious to see the road extended into the inter- ioo. “The Bella Coola Conservative Association should see to it that this is brought plainly before Mr. Manson.” You Know Us Girls Has To Be Careful ncn 1220 2nd Ave Phoned HOTEL CENTRAL European and American Plan ePeter Black, Prop.
