GRADES WILL NOT BE Ottawa, July 25—An official statement is given regarding the story recently published to the effect that the grades of the lranscontinental railway were to be revised so as to save mon- ey at the expense of haulage capacity, No such course has ever been taken, or thought of, and the stery has been doubtless been published for intended pol- itieal effeet, The contracts now being executed on the line as well as that between the govern. vent and Grand Trunk Paceifie railway specify the grades of the road and there is no exeuse for changing it. CHOWN WILL REMAIN GEN. SUPT. The report that Rev, Dr. Chown, general superintendent of the Methodist Church, was to resign his position and become the head of Ryerson College, Vancouver, has been denied by Rey. T. Albert Moore, general secretary of the church, The special committee passed a resolution approving the re- moval of the general superin- tendent’s office from Winnipeg to Vancouver, if Dr. Chown should see fit to change, but his status as general superintendent will not be changed. The matter is for Dr. Chown to decide. If he goes to Vancouver he will pay special attention to the eduea- tional problems of the chureh there. He has not come to any definite decision as yet. The report on church union was adopted yesterday and the committee stands pledged to further the work of uniting the three churches. For the mean- time, conference boards were authorized to co-operate’ with boards of other churches to pre- vent overlapping. WHAT WILL IT BE IN PRINCE RUPERT?
