The only way to! <> Saturday, March 6, 1915. redlize that is by proper think-) ing. Start right now to thin -EDITO in a positive way-—to believe it yourself—-to be convinced that RIALS | There are a lot of people in! the world who refuse to believe in virtue. They insist on meas- | uring everyone accorging to| their own standards. Perhaps this is particularly true of the West, although the East, too,| seems to be imbibing it. The recent case in Toronto where- by a young girl shot her em- ployer dead in defence of her honor will perhaps serve a whole- some purpose. It will tend to remind a certain class of men that there are rights in the world of which they had not dreamed. It is a striking trib- ute to the laws of our country that virtue and _ innocence should receive such protection, even in the face of a technical crime. The sweeping victory of the Liberals in the Yukon election lends color to the feeling that seems universal, that there is a tremendous tide rising all over Canada in favor of a re- turn to Liberalism. No won- der that this feeling is para- mount when all the prosperity that Canada has ever known had under Liberal rule. The man who succeeds, after all, is the man the people want to trust. Sir Wilfrid Laurier succeeded in bringing pros- perity to Canada because of his farsighted statesmanship and his courage to adopt the policy he believed the country needed. The Borden government failed because they were not big enough to see the real issue and rise to their opportunity. : "ee It is evident, too, that the McBride government has out- lived its usefulness—if a gov- ernment thet has exploited the resources of the province can be said to have ever had any usefulness. One of the sound- est principles in Anglo-Saxon systems of government is that a party should not be left in power too long. A change is wholesome, and beneficial to all. It is foolish and childish to say that the Liberals have not competent men to take their place. Nobody with any sense would protend to say that the Conservatives of ' Prince Rupert have a monop- oly of the intelligence or bus- iness ability of this city. The same is true all over the prov- inee. There are good men in both parties; indeed, better men outside the government than in it. The Liberals who are seeking the suffrage of the province are in the front rank of our business and profes- was a | within you there are the ele- ments of greatness; that all) the intelligence of the prov- you require is hard study and ince to say that only one set opportunity to put you on a of men can be had to run ovr; — jeyel with the greatest in the| government. “It's time for + land.
