The selections, so well rendered last night, showed the capability of the orchestra very plainly. The program was com- pletely new and of a more high- elass nature than any of the others previously attempted. The opening number, Sousa'’s ‘‘Cor- coran Cadets’ March, was full! of energy and vim and put the audi- ence in a good frame of mind to receive the succeeding numbers. The other selections rendered were Handel’s “Largo,” Gillet’s “Entre ‘’Acte Gavotte,’ Schu- mann's ‘“Traumerei,’ Brahm’s “Hungarian Dance, No. 2,” and the closing number, ‘“102nd Pa- trol.” The soloist of the evening, John Graham of Vancouver, proved a pleasant singer and appreciation was amply demonstrated by the applause he received after his first solo ‘Love is Mine.”” On his singing ‘Little Irish Girl” the audience demanded his recall, “In a Persian Garden’ was most beautiful as rendered by his clear smooth tenor and “In Memory” held the audience without a whis- per. He sang two other selections, “Bid Me to Love” and “Give Me a Little Tender Thought,” but probably the most appealing and the one most fully enjoyed was nis final encore ‘‘Somewhere a Voice is Calling,’’ which has often been heard but never more effec- tively and sympathetically. A feature of last night's pro- gramme was the address delivered by Colonel Peck, V. C., D. 8. O., M.P., honorary president of the organization. His appearance was received with loud applause and he opened with a few briet and witty nemarks. He told of the value such an organization was to any city. Musie was one of the most important of the fine arts and gave more qgleasure to the world than any other. It was the incentive to great acts bravery in the field of action and he made special reference to the bag-pipes. He closed his address by telling the story of the brave 16th Battalion piper, Richardson, V. G, One more pleasing number on the programme was the cornet solo by J. Peyton, “Caim as the Night,’ in which he showed his skill with his instrument. He wes iceompanied by the entire or- chestra. The accompanists were Miss F. L. Edmands and Miss L. M. Stephens and Professor, Har- vey played the violin obligatos. or BIRTH There was born to Dv. and Mrs. Cade, of First Street, at the Prince Rupert General Hospital this morning, a daughter. T. L. CFS SHAKESPEAREAN PLAY “MACBETH” TONIGHT With the great English actor Sir Herbert Tree in the title role, the historical drama of “Macbeth” will be screened at the Westholme (Theatre tonight. This is a big feature in seven parts, preduced by D. W. Grifliths. The story of Macbeth is full of action and tense dramatic moments, and ol Shakespeare’s plays it is one of the most melodramatic. Sir Her- bert Tree has been acclaimed as one of the greatest of Shake- spearean actors, and the whole play has been staged with that elaborateness for which D. \W Griffiths is noted. The historical incidents with which everyone is familiar have reproduced with great fidelity and seeing the heen play on the screen is the next best to seeing it on the boards, although Shakespeare's’ written words are the best of all. Those who attend tonight at the West- holme are certain to some thing really worth while. Ther« will also be a Keystone comedy. see NOTICE IN THE MATTER of an application for the issue of a fresh certificate of title to part of Lot Eight hundred and foriy-eight 848), Group One (1), Cassiar District, itisfactory proof of loss of certificate iving been filed, notice is hereby given it is my intention, at the expiration ene month from the first publication wreof, to issue a fresh certificate of ttle i the name of Thomas Richard Tomlinson, hich Certificate of Title is dated 8th beuary, 1913, and is No, 3067-1.
