Muoh Development In the District. eeieige: Friday, January 23, 1920, It keeps this paper busy day by day telling of the develop- ments in this district. and now it is at Queen Charlotte Islands. First it is at Stewart, then at Port Edward Tomorrow it will be at some other nearby point. In the city proper there have been a number of new things to tell. The establishment of the planing and shingle mill by the Queen Charlotte Islands Spruce Products Ltd, at the drydock under the management of EK. Cowper Young and another planing and lath mill and other improvements at the Prince Rupert Lumber Co’s. mill are important developments that will have a far-reaching effect on the future business of the place. The establishment of a smelter at Port Edward, if the scheme materializes as it is expected it will, will be one of the biggest improvements we have had. The reason given by the promoters of the industry for not coming here is the fact that we are unable to supply them with power. At Port Edward there is plenty of water with the flume ready constructed. It will be an easy matter to generate power. If we had plenty of cheap power to offer here we should find it a great inducement for industries to come. It is far better than a bonus in that as a rule the in- dustries pay operating expenses and only those that actually operate get the benefit. Queen Charlottes In the Limelight. The Queen Charlotte Islands are once more coming into the limelight. The fact that the Masset Timber Co. is to operate this year and that it is likely to put in a pulp mill draws particular attention to Graham Island. The mill has been lying idle for over a year and the logs have been lying in the woods. Now work is to recommence. Delegation off Te Vietoria. A delegation is being sent to Victoria to press the Govern- ment for large appropriations for public works in this neighbor- hood. It is understood that the Provincial Government will commence the new public buildings this year, will help towards the Morse Creek bridge and will build a bridge across the Skeena at Terrace. There will be other appropriations for the district, but the delegation will impress on the Government the need of commencing the road to Port Edward, especially in view of the proposal to erect a smelter at that place. The delegation will interest itself in improvements at other points and will urge that the northern and central districts be given liberal treatment. This will strengthen the hands of the local members and add emphasis to their requests. Fieh as a Food is Invaluable. In view of the fact. that fish is caught right here and that it should for that reason be always in the pink of condition, it is difficult to understand why people eat so little of it. As a food it ranks high and its medicinal qualities are well known. ‘There is no food more tasty, but we are so near the source of supply that we do not appreciate it, DENTISTRY At a price you can afford te pay Have Your Teeth Examined Today.
