In the memorandum prepare for the Board of Trade by a com nae os es ve x ee ants to interfere with their sometimes eee oe ees awe rae ee ‘arbitrary and high-handed settle- sampling works. It would appear | ants that samplers are a highly im thing. portant adjunct to the mining in- dustry, especially when the min- |! ing is done by a number of small- ‘er operators, and we should think ithat they should be under goy- ‘ernment control. | Since a sampling works as compared with smelters refineries and would be usefu pending the erection and tion of the latter, it would seen that the time properly provided for in that re- spect, without undue delay. understanding of the functions of a sampler are that it is equipped | th machinery to automatically \ sample the ore and accunately de- termine its metal content, making a nominal charge to producers for this service and is prepared to pay for the ore sampled, on the basis of the sample and deter- minations made, or else the ship- may consign the ore to a smelter elsewhere. Thus_ the shipper is not entirely in the hands of or at the mercy of the smelter in so far as the determin- ation of the metal content of his one is concerned. Check on Smelter. é In the case of ore sampled in ;per ansit to the smelter the pro- ducer has the results of his ore as determined at the sampler when making his settlement with the smelter by which he has a check on the smelter settlement. Then, it is a fact that owing to the high freight rates on small shipments, the smaller operator is sometimes unable to ship his product with profit, and then too the small operator is at times hampered for sufficient working capital and is unable to stand the long delay in receiving the money for his ores from a smelter situ- ated at a long distance from the point of origin of the shipment. Provided the determinations as made by the sampler were satis- factory to the shipper, then the shipper could get his returns im- mediately. in Gther Countries. By the assembling of small lots in this way the sampler would be able to obtain the minimum freight rates on the shipments to be made in turn by it. There would appear to be a need for sampling plants built and oper- ated at once by the Government € FOR PROSPECTORS Board of Trade Asks Provincial does ee eM ot require a lange capital outlay and opera- | haSarrived to see that our northern camps are ow) ENTERTAIN AT CARDS THE DAILY NEWS IN THE HEAD INFLUENZA d IN CAPSULE FORM Formula—Aspirin, Phenacetine, Quinine, Salol, Caffein, Cascara and Cam- phot Monobromate-—just what © your physician woyld use At all Druggists > fox ‘for the reason that’ it may tend 4 Line with Smithers.
