MASQUERADE Novel Entertainment Last Night- The Children’s Masquerade, held under the auspices of the Girl Guides’ Chapter I. O. D. E. in the St. Andrew's Hall last night was a new departure in the en- ‘tertainment line and was de- ilightfully successful. There was a large attendance of children, numbering well over 100, who thronged the hall and presented indeed a pretty picture in their varied and novel costumes. Many of the characters were excellent- ly sustained and the many spec- tators were quite repaid for their attendance. So successful was the affair last night that it has been decided to make the child- ren’s masquerade an annual event on the last Friday of each Janu- ary. There is no doubt that had the carnival been held on a Fri- day this year instead of a mii- week night, that there would have been a much larger attendance The best girls’ costume was decided to be that of Miss Pegry Purdy, who appeared as Mis Valentine. The Cat, Miss Rich- ardson, was the most original and also the best sustained character. Albert Palmer, as a Coon, was awarded the prize for the best boy’s costume. Miss Winnie Thomson as “A Turkish Lady,” and Master Cade as ‘‘Little Santa Claus” were accorded honora}hle mention. At ten o'clock the little guests took their departure and the grown-ups took the floor. Gray’s Orchestra was present and sup- plied the dance music with their usual spirit. About a dozen dances were given after a delightful sup- per had been served and the at- tendance was quite good. During the dance the members of the vast of “The Magistrate” arrived n their stage costumes and and further added to of the affair. The up about 3 o'clock. nake-up the novelty dance broke Lieut.-Col.
