The masquerade ball held by Skeena wodg Knights of Pythias in the St. Andrew's Hall last even- ing was the scene of much color- ' ful effect and original costumery. ‘there was a variegated assort- ment of artistic and beautiful characters as well as a great number of impersonations along comical and grotesque lines. A great many of these were very noticeable and well sustained throughout. The annual event, from every standpoint, was a huge success and was up to the high standard set by past masquenades under the same auspices. At 10 o’elock the maskers took to the floor to the first waltz and remained in disguise until nearly twelve o'clock. There was a great crowd of interested spectators among whom speculation as to identity was rife. At 12 o'clock when the Grand March took place ‘and unmasking commenced there were many surprises for the spectators. Prize Winners. The judging was done by Mrs. Vv. Cox, Mrs. Simpson, H. The New Metlakatla basketball players made their parting ap- pearance in the rink last night in a double header which was ex- ceilently played and was fully up to their performance of the night before. The Alaskans won both games and showed the Rupert basketers something in the way of pretty combination and athletic skill. The only lack that was manifested by the visitors was that of basket shooting and here they were excelled by the home team. Their agility on the floor hes been a matter of special com- ment among the large crowds who vitnessed the games The first game played last night between the second teams nd the result was 22-15 in favor of the visitors. They also won the second game between the No, i teams, 24-18. Lee Dell and EL. lludson, the former of Prince Ru- pert and the latter from New Metlakatla, were the referees and judged all points fairly and dis- iLlerestedly. The New Metlakatla players left for their home town on their gasoline boat this morming and had nothing but good to say of the reception accorded them here. Jt is possible that a return trip to the north may be made by the Prince Rupert teams. Financially the trip was successful and ex- penses will be more than cleared with provision for a surstantial for the visitors.
