Casey, president of the Smelters Co., of Seattle, and Hon. Wm. Sloan, ‘Minister of Mines, says a Victoria paper of recent date. Mr.Casey’s company has ac- quired extensive iron ore deposits together with a tén-acre trdct of land, at Dean Channel, a norther- iy arm of Burke Channel on which the town of Bella Coola is situ- ated. Conditions for the extrac- tion of ore, which-assays 52% per cent. metalic iron with very small percentage of impurities, are ideal, it being possible to bunker the mineral at tidewater by gravity: Some Shipped Already..,: A quantity of this British Co- lumbia ore already has been ship- ped to the plant of the Smelters’ Steel Co. at Seattle where, by means of the electro - thermic method, it has been converted, in operation, into the highest grade of grey iron castings. The characteristic fine texture and close grain of the product, for which there is an insistent mar- ket,, with unfilled orders on hand at $65 a ton is sufficient com- ment on the quality of the Pro- vincial ore and the eflicacy of the electrical form of treatment adopted. one The B.C. Act. Mr. Casey’s object in waiting Mr. Sloan, as stated, was to matters relating to the possibility of the Company's be- coming established on this side of the line. His attention having been directed to the Iron Bounties Sct, under the terms of which a company producing pig iron from local ore in the province will re- ceive from the Government a bonus of $3 for every ton manu- factured. Mr. Casey, therefore, asked whether Mr. Sloan would be pre- pared to consider the application of the terms of the “Iron Ore Supply Act,’ which permits the Government to supply ore to a plant, electrical or blast furnace, for experimental purposes to his proposition. Every Encouragement Offered To this the Minister of Mines replied that the Department of Mines, as administered under the present government, had offered every encouragement to legiti- mate enterprise along the line in question, and that he had no hesitation in undertaking that all reasonable assistance - would be tendered a responsible company contemplating the development of the iron ore resources of the province, and wholly in the prev- ince, on discuss if meres ymeadonins spinors res rmmermnt ncarenetl The Man in the Moon l SAYS:- | CLASSIFIED ADVERTISEMENTS, aes tomsrmn. 7 | — er ees sre BE WARTED. v ANTED-—Young lady who un- derstands photo printing; also young lady with or without ex- perience to help — in photo studio.
