In connection with the local ear shortage the local Board of Trade wrote Hon, F. B: Carwvell, chairman of the Railway Com- mission, as follows: “This Board desires to respect- fully draw your personal atten- tion to a condition existing here which is proving very injurious to Canadian national interests. For some time past this port has ex perienced a shortage of express refrigerator cans for the handling of fresh halibut, which has brought about a critical situation as regards Prince Rupert main- taining the position it is duly en- titled to in fresh fish shipping. Only 62 Cars. “In order that you may fully realize conditions we would advise that it is our understanding thal the Canadian Express Company have some 62 refrigerator cars. As many as 26 carloads of fresh halibut have been shipped east from Prince Rupert in one week to points in the United States, as well as eastern Canadian points, such as Quebec, Montreal and Toronto.
