Such is the decision that has been reached by the members of the Colts still left in town. It is the object to foster the interest and entiusiasm of the younger boys in town in baseball and give them something worth while to compete for. To become the win- ners, a team will have to win the trophy two years in succes- sion. The cup, which is con- sidered one of the finest ever of- fered in the city, is now in the hands of R. W. Cameron, who has it on exhibition. The Junior Leaguers have not, as yet, decided when they will open the season but they have already begun to practice on the Market Square and the boys are anxious to go. Players are al- ready being signed up and there will be, in all probability, four teams in the running. These will be the Dry Dock, Colts, Red Sox, and the Bankers. With the do- nation of the fine cup to the league they are given a generous start and they hope to have the general suppor of the public in buying uniforms and _ various equipment, * * Since the Terrace baseball fans and players got busy and organiz- ed a baseball club, word has been received that both Smithers and Telkwa have got their arrange- ments for teams under way. With Anyox and Stewart also organ- izing, this makes baseball fairly under way in the district. Al- though nothing definite has yet been given out, arrangements are now béing made to have the open- ing games in Prince Rupert about the middle of next month. It is understood a campaign will be launched in the near future for monetary support for the sport in this city under the same aus- pices as last season. . * * It is wonderful how one fine day affects the piscators of this city. Since yesterday in more than one quarter gossip as to haunts in the jungles, where the wary trout may be beguiled, has been heard. The recent weather has made it impossible for the fishermen to get out and enjoy the fishing with any degree of comfort, but with fine days in sight it is safe to say that an- other week end will not go by without seeing parties hieing them hence to various secluded fishing grounds. Several thousand fans broke up an exhibition game between the New York Americans and the Brooklyn Nationals on Ebbet's field last Sunday in a great dem- onstration for “Babe" Ruth, the home run king of baseball. With the score 11 to 0 in favor of the Yankees, and Brooklyn just about done in the tenth inning, a fan started across the field to shake hands with the premier long dis: tance hitter who had knocked a three bagger and a single and scored three runs during the game. Before he could be stopped several hundred fans started to follow him and after several minutes’ delay in which time the umpires and police endeavored to clear the field, the game was called.
