} Islands for Summer.

j

Major Allan Brooks, naturalist
and artist, left the city yesterday
for the Islands on the steamer
Prince Albert. fe intends to
spend the summer on Graham Is-
land with headquarters at Masset.

For many years Major Brooks:
Ol, as he is more familiarly known
jamong naturalists, Allan Brooks, |
ihas been engaged in studying the
|ways of the wild things, especial-
jly of the birds. He is an artist
iwho delights to reproduce with
jpencil or brush the beauties that
Many of the best books!
jon bird life contain illustrations
|from the brush of this quiet
worker, one of the most notable
|being “Birds of Washington,” a
\large two - volume publication |
|brought out by W. Leon Dawson
jof the University of Washington.
'The more expensive editions have
full page color illustrations re-
produced from the wonderful
drawings of this artist, and a few
de luxe copies have some of the
original drawings inserted.

Major Brooks is making a point
of investigating the Island grouse,
the trumpeter swan, and the Is-
land cariboo. Also he will study
the fauna of the islands generally,
will climb the hills for ptarmigan
and frequent the shores for the
auklets, and rare gulls.
