ELECTRIC COOKING TO BE DEMONSTRATED The light committee recom- mended to the council last night that a grant of $150 be made out of light revenue towards a dem- onstration of electrical cooking appliances. Ald. McRae suggested that a lower rate be struck for power for cooking, as an added induce- ment to the use of electricity. He thought the present rate was too high and that a lower rate would bring more revenue. Ald, Dybhavn said that the present rate makes cooking with electricity cheaper than coal, though heating came higher. The present intention was to encour- age the use of power for cooking. Ald. McClymont said that he had discussed the matter with an electrician and understood that the outlook for the sale of elec- trical cooking appliances at pres- ent was not bright. Ald. Montgomery felt that the people should be educated along this line and that a demonstration would prove effective. The pro- posal had’ been defeated by the last two councils and he wanted to see the scheme tried out. The report was adopted, THE CRADLE Born to Mr. and Mrs. Patrick J, Ryan, 640 5th Ave., East, a daughter, at the general hospital yesterday. ao TO LONDON CAFE FOR THE BEST MEALS STRICTLY UNION HOUSE Hart Bik.
