This new campaign, like the earlier ef- fort, is clearly a campaign of murder and piracy on the high seas, Had it been an effective naval measure, it would have proven a barrier to the safe transport of troops across the channel. Germany's proud boast to the people of Berlin on the re- sumption of the submarine war with larger and more powerful vessels, was that it would be impossible for Britain to send reinforcements into France, while at the same time the people of Britain would be starved in three months, as traders would not be able to penetrate the blockade. They have succeeded in sinking a few defenceless steamers, but they have missed hundreds during the past week, and the scheme is not a whit more suc- cessful than it was before. When the history of the great struggle comes to be written, one of the most re- markable phases of it will un- doubtedly be the story of how Britain transported hundreds of thousands of soldiers across the channel and through the Mediterranean with the loss of the merest fraction of her men. The British navy has been apparently inactive, but it has most effectively ruled the seas and there can be little doubt that the safe transporta- tion of our troops is largely ably quiet these days. said a word about his prospective trip to Berlin for over a week. desperate Flum last Saturday. gave the Mc- Bride spending about eight millions in Victoria Incidentally, detailed but that is a mere detail when the Colonist is after votes. command of the Kiel Canal fleet and a new naval offensive started. Mr. McRae dealt in a most in- teresting manner with the con- trol of matter by mind, explaining how the workings of the mind in- fluenced the health of the indi- vidual by promoting or hinder- ing the various functions of the body. He went on to deal with the transmission of thought, de- scribing it as something akin to wireless telegraphy. He described the ideas around which new cults had grown up, explaining particu- larly the views of the ‘New Thought” cult. He thought it was a healthy thing for people to study psychology, but warned beginners against swallowing the views of faddists.
