QE —— DAILY EDITION. ati Monday, Feb. 9, 1920. See Ourselves as Others See Us. ° Somethimes it is a good thing to see ourselves as others see us. That we can do this week by reading the editorial in the In- terior News in regard to the establishment of samplers for the mining industry, as suggested by the committee of the Board of Trade headed by J. B. Roerig. The editorial says:— “That the Prince Rupert Board of Trade should get behind ihe miners in their request for assistance will be encouragement to the mining community and occasion no surprise from the gen- eral public, who are used to the spectacle of coast folks flound- ering around in support of one thing or another. Prince Rupert has jumped behind many projects, but not being quite sure where they were going to land in the first attempt they generally stop- ped after the first effort in case they bumped their nose. Then they got behind something else. “In the worthy cause to which they are now committed, that of convincing the government that the time is ripe to es- tablish ore sampling and purchasing plants, the general public will earnestly hope their enthusiasm will not be so short lived, and that their efforts will be lively to the successful accomplish- ment of their purpose. With the idea of a sampling works as a short-cut to the development of our mineral resources, the In- terior News has always been an advocate, and we cannot com- mend teo highly their dtsire for and action in assistance of min- ing, as manifested by the memorandum they have drawn up, and in support of which they are sending a delegation to Victoria.”’ Should Concentrate On One Plant. “While the News (of Smithers) is in accord with the idea, it cannot approve of the iocations suggested in the memoran- dum whereby samplers would be established at Stewart, Alice Arm and Prince Rupert. Why two for the upper coast to the negject of lower Skeena and Omineca districts? And if we share with Stewart, what would Rupert do with one? “It looks as though the memorandum was just a trifle reck- less in this respect, and it is to be hoped that it will not endanger their whole case. For the coming summer at least, one plant of generous capacity located at Prince Rupert would serve well the needs of Stewart and this district. “May they keep after that one. “When he points to our necessity for purchasing manufac- tured copper in foreign markets from Canadian raw material, Mr. J. B. Roerig, who was prominently connected with the mem- orandum, plays a tune on the heartstrings of al! true Canadians, which can have but one result. include Zinc In Refinery “A similar situation exists in regard to zinc, of which there are large deposits at Hazelton, Smithers, and in the Owen Lake snd White Sail districts which could be profitably mined were a home market available. Just now, and although Canada is a large consumer of zinc, she must go to the American markets for the bulk of the commercial preduct. “The Silver Standard mine at Hazleton has shipped several cars of zine ore, produced along with its silver-lead ores, to Ok- lahoma for treatment, owing to the absence of nearer markets. In this case the lengthy freight haul-alone would constitute a “good profit on the ore, and, therefore, in considering a refinery, it would appear that zine should be regarded with copper.” eel DENTISTRY At a price you can afford to pay Have Your Teeth Examined Today. ANOTHER VICTIN OF RHEUMATISI Entirely Well After Six Weeks’ Treatment With “FRUIT-A-TIVES” * MR, AMEDEE GARCEAU 82 Hickory St., Ottawa, Ont. “TI was for many years a victim o that terrible disease, Rheumatism In 1913, I was laid up for four months with Rheumatism in the joints of the knees, hips and shoulders and was prevented from following my work, that of Electrician. I tried many remedies and was under the care of a physician; but nothing did me any good. Then I began to take ‘Fruit-a-tives’ and ina week I was easier, and in six weeks I was so well I went to work again. I look upon this fruit medicine, ‘Fruit-a-tives’, as simply marvellous in the cure of Rheumatism, and strongly advise everyone suffering with Rheu- matism to give ‘Fruit-a-tives’ a trial.”’ AMEDEE GARCEAU. 50c.a box, 6 for $2.50, trial size, 25c.
