Longer life may be achieved by the American people, as a whole, if they will take steps to reduce their blood pressure, said Chief Actuary Arthur Hunter of the New York Life Insurance (Join pany at this afternoon's session of the seventeenth annual convention of the Association of Life Insurance Presidents. He made this statement at the end of the presentation of an original sur vey of blood pressure experience collected from various parts of the world and said: "Taking the population of the United Slates, as a whole, I believe that a belter adjusted diet, with less animal food, would result in a lower blood pressure and in greater longevity, with an equal ability lo carry on their' occupations." Mr. Hunter disputed the theory that blood pressure is affected by race and said that it is princi pally affected by kind and' quan lily of food and to prove his contention submitted life iusur once blood pressure records af fecting representative groups in China, Japan, Australia, Argen tine, Canada and the United Slates. It was also disclosed by Mr Hunter that the leading American life insurance companies are now pooling their .blood pressure ex perience covering about one mil lion lives in this country and Canada in an effort further to study 1 lie relation of pressure lo longevity.
