DAILY EDITION Thursday, Nov. 22, 1923. Regret Death Of George Fitzmaurice. tlcorge Fitzmaurice, holler known here as Filz, who closed hi earthly career early yesterday inoniing'wns In a larjre extent a public character. lie knew everybody and everybody knew him. Ila was one of lhoe likeable, men that mnke the world brighter for his presence. v . Filz was a pioneer of Prince Rupert. - He had Kreat faith in the city and its future. Occasionally he"' 'wrote articles' Tor this paper and they were always welcome, lie was at one lime on the staff of lue paper and of recent years was ready .to help out during any time of stress. That was triieof.iything that Wns going on. Fitz could be counted oh fo help any good caiise br to lakft part in any eve;il wh'wre h'is services "were neede'd. Rapid changes are (akin? place in Rritish politics, party lines do. not amount Id much there among the biggest men, when there is a question of principle at stake. The recent .stepping back into the UnionM ranks of Lork Birkenhead, Austen Chamberlain and Sir Robert' Home was a great event in the history of the country. 'These men, prominent in the Lloyd fienrge cabinet, refused to desert their chief at .th?. time of the defection prior to the last election. Now, when it js s.een that they are needed to help carry a bjg measure thev step into line and are ready to do their part. , In this country these men would have to answer charges of instability and unfaithfulness to parly. Doubtless they are criticized in that country, but the fact that they can move "from one side to another and still keep .their prominence in nublic life is an indication of their greatness. After all, political parties are simply means to an end. Thev nr formed to unite, people iii-arcying on a certain policy. They are formed by the people who doniinald them and are useful only as long as they help In carry -out The purpose for which they are formed. :- t McRae Party Is An Example. Take the recently formed provincial party as arr example. A lot oi money tins been spent in organizing it, so much that people are'wonderiufr who it is that is willing lo spend so much. et the organizer of the party declares that they have not yet aoopie.(i a policy mil tbal it wilt e formulated at a convention lo be held soon. It looks like putting the. cart before the horse. If there was some great outstanding policy that was before the country and the new party was formed to place it before the r eopi and lo try lo carry it through lo fruition, there would, he some excuse for its existence. It has no such policy and consequently has no excuse for existence. Also it may be mentioned that there are no big men in the party who look like leaders. If the new provincial., parly' .is Yin greater success than was the new farmer's party in Ontario it will be anything but beneficial to Ihe country. Take No Pay For Making Corrections. Hanbury Williams Writing In Montreal Gazette of His Visit. It was fair lime when P.. llan-hury Williams f Ottawa, visited I'rinrc Hupert and naturally be wrote of Ihiiurs as he saw lliein at that lime in an article in the Montreal Qa.plle, one of a series, he says: : .lli I lie way from Terrace to Prince ltuperl the kecna lliver unrolls scenery like a movintr picture show; there is one fairy peep after another, impossible to photograph from the rear platform so as. to jjet satisfactory results because half the beauty lies in the vivid color rhanpes, the peeps of silvery water seen afar off through a framework of green islets; the broken splash of a rising salmon; as you get fearer to Ihe sea, the water jrels, sailer. The sea-frulls congregate on the sand shoals, and I lie broad current flows slow and smooth, a contrast lo the hurrying: waste of white water which you have watched till the eye got weary in the mountains you are leaving behind you. In the ppnnlti male stage, you pass canneries built out on piles over the estuary, which, at this lime of the year, seem to be deserted except fop a few stolid, incurious Chinamen, ami the whole thing seems foreign- and unfamiliar. Llko No Other Prince Huperl i(sp(f is like no other town of its size in Canada; verily it is a city found ed on a rock, and mostly blasted nut of the rock, for that matter. Then they lay wooden, sidewalks down on Ihe rock lo make it look civilized and like a pukka rily, and lo reach the hotel you have In walk up wooden steps, dozens of them, and long wooden inclines w i I h ravines below you, and the town rises on shelves one above I lie other away-up to the bills at Ihe hack and the population is while and yellow, mostly yellow, be ing Chinese and Indian, fat and prosperous looking; and on all Ihe doorsteps of the stores and business buildings are squat I In? squaws and papooses, who ap pear lo have nothing in Ihe world lo do except lo stare round-eyed at the passers by; and, this beirwj .fair day. In munch fruit and exhibit toy balloons for the admiration of the public. The middle of Third Avenue, which is the Hroadway of Prince Hupert, is blocked almost across by two large and subsfantia' houses which are being trans ported on rollers from their or iginal site where the new City Hall has been erected. I remained there for three or four days and I hey made no appreci able progress during that lime in spile of the fact that one of them had a huge notice pasted on it warning you against ex ceeding Ihe pace of fifteen miles an hour. Manners Qood In the dining room of the hotel there were almost as niariy Indians as while folk and Ihe American tourists didn't quite like it, although the autochthon ou guests seemed to mingle with them on terms of perfect equality, and Ihe manners of the Indians were at least as good as those of many whiles whom I have come in contact with in the country hotels one slays In when travelling on Ihe wilds of Hip western prairies. A train acquaintance from Seattle and I started lo the Fair together af ter dinner and climbed more perpendicular stairs and side inclines, the last lap being laid over a muskeg which yielded under your feet exactly like a bath sponge, when you stepped olf life wood. We had another staircase to climb hi order lo enter the building itself and the first thing we saw was a couple of Chinese babies in gorgeous irray and looking so like dolls that I fell Inclined In pinch lliein lo make sure they were real.. Artlsl of Repute There was an Indian artist of repute carving little lutein poles and bracelets and other adorn-infills out of prehistoric mammoth Ivory, and weaving pretty little baskets which will bold water like u tin pall. Perhaps you are already familiar with Dr. Chase's Nerve Food and need only a reminder of what you may expect from the use of this great restorative treatment . There Is scarcely a community in this great country but can produce evidence to the unique quality of Dr. Chase's Nerve Food as a means of forming new, rich blood, strengthening the nerves, and building up the system generally. Try it when you are tired out and discouraged. Try it for sleeplessness and irritability. Try it for nervous headaches and indigestion. It is not a mere relief, and for this reason you must persevere in its use until the lost vigor is restored to the nerves.
