happy
news

which
came
in
the
official
announcement
of
the
King,
after
consultation
with
his
governments
throughout
the
Commonwealth,
that
the
beloved
Princess
Elizabeth,
heir-apparent
to
the
throne
of
Great
Britain,
Canada
and
other
British
nations,
had
chosen
her
consort
and
would
shortly
be
wed.
Prime
Minister
Mackenzie
King
has
"heartily
concurred"
on
our
behalf
of
the
royal
match
and
all
parties
in
Parliament
yesterday
expressed
their
approval
and
best
wishes
as
do
we
all.
It
was
just
about
ninety
years
ago
when
there
was
a
previous
parallel
to
the
modern
troth
that
is
now
being
plighted.
It
was
then
that
the
great
Queen
Victoria
chose
her
consort,
a
match
which
later
events
proved
to
be
a
most
happy
one.
With
the
handsome
and
gallant
Philip
Mountbatten,
himself
of
royal
blood
but
title
renounced
so
that
he
might
accept
British
instead
of
Greek
citizenship,!

should
be
equally
as
happy.

interfere
with
Turkey

threatens
Greece,

makes
the
Scandinavian
countries
live
in
deadly
fear,
talks
about
United
States,
Great
Britain
and
France
endeavouring
to
"impose
the
will
of
great
powers
on
small
European
countries
by
force."

outcome
of
it
all?
No
one
wants,
if
it
can

against
Russia

way,

the

disaster.

Europe
the
victim
ofstarvation
and
economic
collapse,

United

War
Service

Edinburgh
An
Interesting
address

Mrs.
Florence
Wilson,
who
gave
a
detailed
account
of
the
splendid
work
performed
by
the
Canadian
Legion
War
Services
in
the
City
of
Edinburgh
during
the
War
featured
the
regular
monthly
meeting
of
the
local
Canadian
Legion
last
night.
Mrs.
Wilson
was
thoroughly
familiar
with
her
subject,
having
been
Secretary
and
finally
man
ager
of
the
Canadian
Legion
War
j
Services
Branch
in
Edinburgh.
She
traced
the
activities
from
its
start
as
a
small
hostel,
to
its
close
when
600
beds
and
a
staff
of
500
volunteer
workers
were
required
to
handle
its
manv
ramifications
so
familiar
to
al1
overseas
veterans.
The
meeting
was
well
attended
and
several
lady
members
were
present.

was
in
the
chair.
Besides
the
regular
monthly
routine
business,
the
meeting
made
arrangements
for
the
annual
picnic
which
will
be
held
next

at
