Elizabeth Chooses ALL CANADIANS rejoice at the happy news . which came in the official announcement of the King, after consultation with his governments throughout the Commonwealth, that the beloved Princess Elizabeth, heir-apparent to the throne of Great Britain, Canada and other British nations, had chosen her consort and would shortly be wed. Prime Minister Mackenzie King has "heartily concurred" on our behalf of the royal match and all parties in Parliament yesterday expressed their approval and best wishes as do we all. It was just about ninety years ago when there was a previous parallel to the modern troth that is now being plighted. It was then that the great Queen Victoria chose her consort, a match which later events proved to be a most happy one. With the handsome and gallant Philip Mountbatten, himself of royal blood but title renounced so that he might accept British instead of Greek citizenship,! this should be equally as happy. "-y!?e snouse f future Queen has been chosen. L6nc;live the royal couple in happiness and may all tlie gifts of joyful wedlock be theirs! TYPICAL RUSSIAN BEHAVIOUR SHOPwT of a miracle, it now seems NOTHING evident, will induce Russia to co-operate with United States, Britain and France in bringing economic aid to Europe. Russia's suspicions, her unwillingness to follow any course that does not fit in with her own aggrandizement, remain. At every hand and on every occasion this becomes evident Ironically enough, the country which has made countries like Latvia and Esthonia her satellites, which dominates Poland, Rumania, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Bulgaria, which seeks to interfere with Turkey and Iran, which threatens Greece, which makes the Scandinavian countries live in deadly fear, talks about United States, Great Britain and France endeavouring to "impose the will of great powers on small European countries by force." The outcome of it all? No one wants, if it can bafhelpeda "bloc" against Russia .that way, in the - end,. mustbe disaster. But witK Europe the victim ofstarvation and economic collapse, the United States, Britain and France can harly remain spectators of catastrophe merely because Riissia refuses J.o help or wants to hinder. Along that path, too, might be calamity. Somebody is always ready to lend a helping hand if you have any trouble opening your pocket-book, r i A.
