According to verbal given to City Clerk Thaln by Mr. Poulsen, an error Is sur veying land wli:cn froulsen bought from the C.N.R. In 1941 resulted In him constructing buildings on land now leased by the railroad to the city for roadway. The building extends 11.8 feet onto city -leased property. Prior to approaching the city, Mr. Poulsen sought to lease the C.N.R. property on which his building extends but was told that the railway company could not extend his lease to encroach-on the city's lease without the city's permission. ' The aldermen decided that there was still enough land left for a roadway and movpd that Mr. Poulsen be notified to ask for a release from encroach ment in writing. TRIBUTE TO J. J. "Sure there are faults in out economic system," he said. "I guess no one would say it was perfect. It has faults. In the past it had some pretty big and seriou3 faults because some men of great ambition had a tendency to ride roughshod over the rights of others. Governments had to do something about that, and did, and the growth of the trade union movement d d something to curb itas well. But mostly I think you'll find that attitude pretty well disappeared because the industrial heads themselves ound ;t didn't pay. They found they had to have public goodwill, and worker goodwill, or there was no solid founda tion for their business " But with all its faults. VIS it is still the system that qS' briagij greatest oppor-f -turwties Joeveryone and sTw cteatestTcwaniJ, and the w I .hiahest standard of living for everyone. It's the only syetem that doesn't stultify ambition and trarr.p the lives of the people. There is opportunity for all, and every man can mfke his own life what Se wants it to be It is ust a question af how much brains and energy anJ ambition he wants to throw into it. "Most especially, every man knows his sons and daughters will have a chance to do big things and enjoy a full and free life. That counts." .Hie OU f imct'j iron art prtttnlel in tnu not'ivpcr tdch u. unier the sponsorship tf the British Columbia Federation ol Trail ini Iniiiutry). -"- Advertise in the Daily News has the welcome mat out for its patron-friends OPEN 7 AM.
