Massachusetts Family Here After 7,000 Mile Trailer Trip With 7,000 miles of highway behind them and the promised land of Alaska just ahead, Mr. and Mrs. David White and their three children of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, halted their car and huge trailer in front of Prince Rupert's federal building Friday afternoon and wondered auto camp. They found a place to park their 3a-ton trailer but it wasn't an auto camp. Prince Rupert does not have one. It was at a former Canadian army camp on Eleventh Avenue where they plan . to stay until they leave for Ketchikan by boat on Monday. The family, Mr. White and his wife, and son, David, Jr., 14, and daughters, Evelyn, 12, and Mattie, 7, plan to live in Ketchikan for at least a year and Mr. White does not feel that ho will have much trouble getting established In the Al aska city. "I've been in the wholesale and retail f Lsh business in Dart - 1 mouth for a number of years," Mr. White said. "I understand that Ketchikan is a fishing town, too." The family left the southern Massachusetts city on June 23, Just after school closed for the youngsters. ; They travelled leisurely, towing the 25-foot by eight-foot trailer behind their 1041 Ford coupe. They visited Niagara Falls, Rushmore Park, South Dakota, Yellowstone Park, and other beauty spots In the United States. "You have learned more geog raphy In the last six weeks than you did in school. Haven't you?" Mr. White asked his son. "We sure have," replied David, Jr. "And we enjoyed it, too." The Whites had very little car trouble on the trip, and only one flat tire. However, the Canadian leg of the Journey was beset with warnings that they could not get through to Prince Rupert. "A1 man in the Canadian National office in Seattle told us that wc could not get through to Prince Rupert," Mr, White reported. "I ,was told that there was only a. SATURDAY, AUGUST 16, 1947 triggcyafcclickc - ojrarreirrptyr' where they could find an i logging; road pari way west of Hazellon and that it would be folly to try and travel the road with a trailer." They encountered a series of such discouraging comment at gas stations along the way. The Whites not only made it, but they described the road as a- good one, even though they did not like the dust which Mrs. White and Evelyn swept energetically from the trailer when it was parked at Eleventh Avenue. ACCOMMODATION MUST UK BUTTER "You would get an awful lot 0f tourists from the States it Americans knew of this road," Mr. White declared. "Howover, you will have to get better accommodation, especially motor camps at frequent Intervals." Best-remembered stretch of highway for the Whites was between Hazelton and Terrace, which they found narrow and winding in spots. "There were places where tree branches touched the trailer on both sides," said Mrs. White. "They seem to be doing quite a TONIGHT Civic Centre Carnival 7;00 p.m. OFFICIAL OPENING Mayor Nora E.
