Canadian Paradox IA HEN MEN WITH REAL ESTATE to sell VY were describing Prince Rupert as "the future -San Francisco of Canada," with perhaps tongue ' in cheek, there were tolerant smiles. t ' Since then, nothing much has happened. Rut that proves nothing. There are numerous persons v vhohave no sense of vision. They are incapable . of seeing anything or feeling any emotion beyond thei "present. To these, the profoundly true maxim ,t. "without vision the people perish" cannot, nor cpimrnot apply. It is folly to be optimistic when there c;tn be no reason. Rut it is wisdom when opportunity is sfocfear and so certain. What is the situation today? Canada, country of enviable renown and God-given richness, has about everything impoverished and stricken nations need and must have. Tjuytfbtain this, calls for effort. Effort implies jrfoftie1. Tens of thousands of them would move to (Jarintla if they could. With them, their talents, re- rf smvfejand will to work, vacant lands would blossom - aif(l).Tiew communities multiply. Without them, silent acres would remain unchanged, and the gifts of Providence be still-born. ' Human beingswant bread, shelter and security as never before.' Canada can provide all three if the process of doing so is performed along lines which keep within the limits of reason and judgment. For neyer before in Canadian history has there, been such a prospect as exists at this hour. This is an empty land, yet brimming over with the blessings that give and sustain life. Such a paradox- cannot go on forever. Editor, Daily News - The account in Friday's paper of the unfortunate Incident leading to the resignation of Hugh Dalton as Chancellor of the Exchequer in the Attlee cabinet refers to information regarding the budget being divulged to a reporter on the staff , of the Labor paper, the Star. I think you wilUfind, upon investigation, that the Star is not a Labor newspaper, but a paper which supports the Liberal party in England. For many years the London Herald has been the official Labor party organ. I think this fact should be recognized so as to avoid any Implication, albeit unintentional, that the former cabinet member had disclosed budget secrets to a journal dedicated to his own political leanings. Why is it that the Cross of Christ secures our devotion? Recause of the supreme expression which that Cross gives of the love of God. The death of Christ was not Iho reason why God Joved us. God is holy, and cannot look on sin with any degree of allowance but He cart sympathize with sinners. Where sin and love -meet, there Is always suffering. Well, they met at Calvary where God, who was Christ, entered into our experience, shared our woe and sorrow, our despair and remorse and tasted our sin. God's love Is a love for sin ners. It Is here that God's love stands so far separate from all the love of man. "While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us". God longs to love me Into something lovable.
