OBJECT

the
recent
Marian
Congress
in
Ottawa,
in
the
words

one
writer,
was
"to
start

wave
of
religious
renaissance
which
will
turn
men
back
to
God
and
away
from
war
and
conflict."
Canadians
generally
will
welcome
efforts
in.
that
"
direction.
The
Roman
Catholic,
church
is
an
effective
in-
ternationa.l
institution.
It
has
gone
on
surviving
'
and
growing
for
1900
years.
Its
prayers
and
its
work
in
the
cause
of
peace
will
have
effect.
We
wish
it
well
in
its
effort
"to
start
a
wave
of
religious
renaissance."
We
wish
the
same
for
other
f
aiths.
Was
there
ever
a
time
when
the
world
more
needed
it?
"Full
employment'
is
the
best
that
governments
can
offer.
Honest
socialists
know
that
their
finest
dreams,
fully
realized,
do
nothing
more
for
the
human
race
than
give
it
the
materials
and
,
mechanisms
required
for
animal
existence.
Milk
cows
on
the
carefully
supervised
farms
that
supply
city
milk
get
a
clean
stall,
all
the
fresh
water
and
chop
they
can
eat,
fresh
bedding
every
day,
carefully
selected
mates,
expert
medical
care
constantly.

Who
wants
to
be
a
cow?
Yet
doing
the
same
for
the
human
race
as
has
long
since
been
done
for
cows
is
the
great
frenzy
of
our
time.
We
are
vastly
concerned
about
putting
stuff
in
men's
stomachs
and
arranging
things
so
they
will
"Z-
have
more
time
and
money
to
devote
to
beer,
movies,
ball
games
and
idleness.
We
are
frantically
building
the
social
service
state
from
which
all
blessings
are
supposed
to
flow
and
which
is
supposed
to
do
as
much
for
us
as
we
now
do
for
the
cows.
Very
general,
we
find,
is
the
uncomfortable
feel-
ing
that
none
of
these
things,
like
the
social
service
state,
nor
full
employment,
nor
free
beer,
nor
better
motion
pictures,
are
going
to
solv?
man's
immemorial
problem
;
living
with
himself
in
contentment
and
with
his
neighbors
in
peace;
ajbove
all,
in
knowing
that
there
is
some
point
to
life,
that
he
has
sorye
part
of
the
answer
to
the
riddle
of
human
existence.
We
knw
a
lot
of
people
rich
in
talent,
money
and
power.
But
the
happy
people
we
know,
the
truly
successful
human
beings,
are
all
people
with
some
kind
of
a
religion
;
some
firm
faith
in
a
power
beyond
themselves.
We
have
a
very
sick
world,
filled
with
spiritually
sick
people.
We
hope
a
religious
renaissance
is
on
the
wav.
CANADA
FAR
AHEAD
CANADIANS
enjoy
more
of
the
modern
comforts
of
life
than
any
other
nation
with
possible
exception
of
the
United
States,
according
to
an
interesting
graph
published
in
"Round
Table,"
a
publication
for
General
Motors
dealers
and
their
employees.
With
only
six-tenths
of
one
per
cent
of
the
world's
population
and
6
per
cent
of
its
land
area,
Canada,
under
the
free
enterprise
system,
enjoys
an
overwhelming
advantage
not
only
in
industrial
strength
but
in
the
everyday
comforts
of
life.
The
mileage
of
its
railroads
and
telegraph
wires,'
in
relation
to
population,
surpasses
all
nations.
The
electricity
it
produces
nearly
doubles
that
of
any
other
nation.
In
everyday
comforts
Canada
is
in
the
unique
class
of
the
United
States;
it
has
a
telephone
for
every

persons
...
an
automobile
for
every

.

.
a
radio
for
every
7
...
32
times
more
automobiles
...
22
times,
more
telephones
and
nearly
7
times
more
radios
than
in
Russia.
In
the
dissemination
of
news,
Canada
stands
comparison
with
the
United
States.
In
proportion
to
its
population,
it
has
two-thirds
as
many
daily
newspapers
as
the
United
States
.

as

as

Great
Britain,

than
in
Russia.

one
meets
so
many
men
over
thirty,
years
of
age
whohave

seen

track
laying
machine

work

really
appears
as
if
our
country
is
finished
and
painted.
There
seem
to
be
few
men
who
realize
that
the
railway

which
the
trl-weekly
trains
travel
on
through
Prince
George
was
designed
as
a
through
trunk
railway
from
Monctoh,
N.B.,
to
Prince
Rupert.
Could
these
men
realize
that
if
Sir
Wilfrid
Laurier
had
been
permitted
to
finish
his
Grand
Trunk
Pacific
Railway
and
set
it
going
as
he
designed
It
and
put
the
money
into
it
to
keep
it
going
through
Its
infertile
years
as
Sir
John
McDonald
did
his
CP.
Ry.,
then

sure
that
we
all
could
see
where
the
G.T.P..
would
be
a
going
concern
today
and
would
not
have
cost
the
country
a
dollar
more
than
the
present
mix-up.
Prince
Rupert
would
be
on
a
par
with
Vancouver
as
an
ocean
port,
docking
ocean
liners
from
Vladivostock,
the
Pacific
terminal
of
the
Siberean
railway
as
Charles
Hays
planned.
Prince
George
would
have
been
a
divisional
terminal
employing
more
men
and
handling
more
traffic
than
it
ever
will
handle
even
if
all
their
present
dreams
are
realized.
Can
we
remember
that
Prince
Rupert
is
500
miles
nearer
orien
tal
points
than
is
Vancouver,
which
means
that
a
boat
making
a
round
trip
sails
1000
miles
extra
in
order
to
pass
Prince
Rupert
up,
and
there
were
415
of
these
sailings
In
1936,
mean
ing
there
were
415,000
miles
of
extra
sailing
done
in
that
one
year,
but
this
extra
mileage
of
boat
sailing
put
passenger,
mail
and
express
traffic
into
Van
couver
to
load
five
and
sometimes
eight
CP.
passenger
trains
out
of
Vancouver
daily.
Now
what
would
happen
if
Prince
Rupert
and
Prince
George
should
be
getting
even
a
fair
share
of
that
traffic?
And
why
not,
when
it
is
claimed
,that
Prince
Rupert
is
two
days
sailing
nearer
oriental
points.
Well,
if
one
consults
the
time
table
it
will
be
found
that
48
hours
would,
put
passengers
traffic
in
Winnipeg
before
the
boat
arrives
at
Vancouver..
Surely
it
is
as
plain
as
a
har
vest
moon
in
a
clear
sky
at
midnight
.that
all
the
north
country
needs
is
an
overseas
port
on
the
North
Pacific
whether
the
Port
is
at
Prince
Rupert
or
elsewhere.

whose
story

shipwreck
in
the
Aleutians
followed
by
an
epic
lifeboat
voyage
adross
the
Gulf
of
Alaska,

discredited
by
police
and
immigration
authorities
24
hours
after
his
arrival
here
last
Friday,
will
be
shipped
back
to
Ketchikan
as
soon
as
steamship
passage
is
arranged
for
him,
Immigration
Officer
R.
D.
Evans
said
today.
Anger,
who
gave
.his
name
as
Andrew
Young
on
his
arrival
here
in
a
16-foot
sail
boat,
has
been
in
the
city
Jail
since
Saturday
afternoon
when
he
admitted
the
falsity
of
his
story.
No
charges
are
expected
to
be
laid.
Object
of
the
local
Immigration
office
is
to
get
rid
of
him
as
soon
jis
possible,
and
it
Is
expected
that
he
may
be
shipped
back
to
Ketchikan,
where
hlj
voyage
originated,
tomorrow
night
on
the
Prince
Rupert.
The
Customs
office,
so
far,
has
reached
no
decision
regarding
the
release
of
the
sail
boat
or
equipment
which
was
seized
shortly
before
Anger's
detention
on
Saturday.
Questioning
of
Anger
by
the
authorlUes
has
resulted
so
far
in
no
coherent
story
as
to
his
background,
other
than
that
he
spent
the
last
three
months
around
Ketchikan.
It
is
believed
however,
that
he
has
been
in
Alaska
for
some
time.
