People today only think they feel a wind. The vintage of 40 years ago was eccentric. Otherwise, it would never have been here. The breeze Dlayed the devil with one's rest. There would be different kinds and all evil and crafty. The one that murdered sleep would not be heard until, as a rule, after midnight. First would come a low, moaning sound dying away faint and Jar yet returning with growing power from a draw, somewhere back in the moun tains. The thing got on one's nerves. Then, a few uneasy minutes and there would come a screaming, whist-line burst of velocity that aD- peared to be directly headed for your home. And that might go on for hours. If one had company in bed, there was a certain moral support but the solitary bird had to fight it out on his own and in the morning was a mel-a'ncholy business. Work Is not scarce, wages are substantial and pleasures will be taken. Now, what an Individual calls a good time is his own affair. It often leads to thelock-up. Someone will pay plenty for rellevlnj the thirst of an Indian. But when Jobs are scarce and money even more o, the first place to reflect the sad condition is where the magistrate sits. It's always been that way in the past. Court history repeats itself. Thirty years ago a man in Prince Rupert bought space in a paper to tell how he thought Prince Rupert would look after a lapse of a quarter of a century. He was cptlmistic but not wildly so. Does anyone, today, feel moved to do a bit of m-edlctlne ta forecast Prince Rupert 25 vears hence? Try it. This is the time and the place.
