4 V B 9 B a THY prince Ruucrt Dalli? lQtvjs Tuesday, December 23, 1947 ENGINEERS TO GET INCREASE Contributes to Steadily Mounting: Costs at Hospital An increase in the minimum salaries ol its steam operating engineers was allowed by the Prince Rupert Hospital Board at Its December meeting, raising the schedule minimum to $178 a month. The Increase was approved after being requested by the Union. .S. L. Peachey. secretary of the Prince Rupert Engineer's Union, Informed the Board that the minimum schedule for steam engineers was $178 with a 44-hour week, and asked that the pre-fent schedule be brought into line. Board Chairman Aidernian C. Q. Ham pointed out that ths increase was one of many which had resulted in -raising hospital costs. Medical and surgical supplies, and salaries had gone up considerably , during the last year with the 'riyilt, that the hospital Is faced with an extremely difficult problem in providing maximum service at minimum cost.
