Lots were belnsr sold. A "snap" like gold, was where you found it. Cash came easy. If the ne Paciilc port did not make, itself heard,, the publicity clan was by no means blameless. Then, the era of opu-lance and optlmsim faded away, and the long somnolence came. But even that dreary period passed and now the city is step ping up and seeing translated Into fact the hopes and expecta tions which had been flourishing 40 years before. Today, the port of Prince Rupert, in papers and magazines by the score, is rated nve cop. once the western saying that "the first 50 years are the hardest" was regarded as a dubious sort of jest,.' But in fact, there seems a grain of solemn truth to it To say more persons are travelling today than , ever toefort 13 not overstating the caseAnd not only that. They are going further and see and obtain more for their money. Admitting the occa sional air crash and the recent rail disaster in Manitob'af, they journey with comfort and a sav ing of time that, allows no com ourse : If your building, house or fur niture were lost through fire, would your present INSURANCE cover replacement of your possessions? DEER AND MOOSE HUNTING SLOWED BY SHELL LACK Hunting of deer in the western game district opened Saturday without, so far as is known, any immediate slaughter of the wild animals. Most likely reason Is that most hunters are planning their expeditions for later in the season when they can get shots at game birds as well. Just what will happen when the nimrods become active de pends cf course, on their accur acy but, owing to the present ammunition situation, it is pos sible that fewer will go out than in former years. While bird hunters can be as sured of lots of shotgun ammuni tion, the supply for large calibre rifles Is a bit of a prdblem. Par ticularly short. Is 30-30 ammuni tion, the mcst popular by far. Another dull tone in the pl?-ture Is the fact that ammunition has undergone a price jump ranging from 10 per cent for metallic shells, to 20 per cent for shotgun ammunition. Open season for deer in the eastern district, the western limit of which is near AnieSbury', opened on Monday, and will continue to November 30. Season for moose in the eastern district opened September 1 and will continue until November 15. In the western district, tnoj deer season opened on Septem-bear 13 and extends to November 30, for bucks only, except on Graham Island, where the woods are iineo. wun aeer, Mere Is a continuous open season on both bucks and does.
