RENDEZVOUS OF YOUTH Local Youths Working at Skeena Cannery On the south bank of the Skeena in the environs of Carlisle Cannery there Is a place that for the summer at least, Is a transplanted limb of Prince Rupert. It Is clled "Rupert Ren dezvous," and It houses 25 local youths working during the school holidays at the. Canadian. Fishing Co. cannery there. "Rupert Rendezvous" got Us alliterative handle through no haphazard accident of nomenclature. The thing was done purposely and democratically, by ballot. The ballot saved it from the questionable distinction-of being called "Sockeye Lodge" or "Bate's Reform School," the latter after Aubrey Bate, their counsellor. The three names voted on were chosen by Clarence Salter, cannery manager, from 15 submitted by the boys who occupy the bunkhouse. While the other 14 prospective names probably soon, will be lost to poiiterity, "Rupert Rendezvous" has at least taken one step toward Immortality, end the names of the boys who occupy it have claims to no less importance. They are: Herbert Amos, Bob Anderson, Alfred Doane, Delray Hanklnson, Barry Hill, Victor Johnson, Harry Kll- las, Reg. Davigne, Bill Lees, Keith McAra, Billy McChesney, Angus Mcintosh, Allan Mostad.
