There is naturally a difference of opinion in regard to whether aeliou should be taken to provide a ball ground suitable for the younger boys at the corner of MeBride and Sixth Slreel. There is a rather natural disinclination to interfere with the course of traffic by diverting the street but those who iae families or who are interested in games and ports feel that the benefits to be derived would be far greater than any disability the cily would suffer. While the proposed ground might not be large enough for a full size ball park it would be sufficiently large for any of the younger set to use and would not be difficult to make. There seems to be no other site in the city, centrally located, that could be converted into a pround.as easily as this one. There may posibly be legal difficulties that would be dif ficult to overcome, but as the slreets belong to the city it would not seem to he an insuperaMe difficulty. Financing is another matter. That is a program for Die cily to wrestle with. It would be a. good thing to find out exactly what the construction of the, grounds would crisl so that people, may have au intelligent idea tf the problem which presents itself. Would be Suitable For Football. Foollmll players say that the proposed ground would be excellent Tor their game. II would be1 large. enough and suitable in every way for the purine. There would in this game be no danger of kicking the ball beyond the rob fines ' of the ground Ihrough some resident's window. If this ground could be secured it would prove a great impetus to sports in the cily, providing opporliuiily for games which under present conditions II hi""1 ,'"il'l ,,la-ve'' mvi"f) ' 'be. congestion al Acropolis Would Be Great Thing For City. It would undoubtedly be a great thing for Ihe ejlv jf this Sixth Avenue, and Mi-Bride Street grounds could be- made. As they are at present the four plot at the four corners have little value as playground. Consolidated they would be jut what is needed. The plan is worthy of every consideration and if there are strong objections they should be clearly stated. It is nolcd thai mot of the objection comes from ioc who have no children or who are more inleresled in Ihe financial aspect than in the welfare of Ihe young people or the cily, What About The Gyro Club Proposal. In view of the present situation what is to be done about the f.yro s Club proposal? The aim of that dub is excellent and Ihe members have shown most commendable energy in raising money to provide for the youngsters. If lh- larger plan goes ahead, ome other site must be found for the Cvro pliivground but jus) which requires careful consideration. The government ground at Market Square are not available for sports or games but are to he beautified. Some other place must be secured -Should this playground plan not be found suitable, then' it is hoped that the fiyros will be given every encouragement by the civic authorilies but just how 'and where is a mailer which will have to he decided after investigation.
