RUPERTWINS CHAMPIONSHIP Football Game Against Ocean Falls Resulted in Draw With Score 1-1 The final football game in the exhibition series, between Ocean Falls and Prince Rupert, played on the Acropolis Hill grounds yesterday aflernoon and resulting in a draw l-l, t lie locaf ag gregation thus winning the silver ware symbolic of the northern B.C. championship in connection Willi I he exhibition ' soccer series for the largest number of goals scored, was one of the fastest and prettiest games seen in the city for some time past. A large crowd of enthusiasts was. on hand to witness the play which furnished plenty of excilement. Milchell, in the forward line for Ocean Falls scored in the first half and H. McDougall evened hings up with a clever goal in the second for the locals. The following learns were field ed: Ocean Falls Willier. goal: Smith and O. KI.ord, full backs; ,Munro, Best and Keith, half backs; Paul, Clarke, Defleux. Smith and Mitchell, forwards. Prince, Rupert Steve Gaw- ,thorn, goal; II. Menzies and J. Harris, full backs; P. The Game Prince Rupert kicked on the lawn .grade. From Ihe kiek.nn Ocean Falls pressed 'and for a lime things looked dangerous for Rupert but after some inidfield play Ihe local forwards worked Ihe ball down Ihe field and Ers- kine tried Willier who saved. Ocean Fails forced a corner but nothing matured. The game was fast and pretty. The. local team got a fine brand ot combination play going and were very aggressive. The Ocean Fall- team were not taking second place on Ihe form of play, attd keot un a merry bombardment at Gawthorn in goal for the locals, who was on the job at all limes. A foul awarded to Ocean Falls, outside Ihe penalty area was nol utilised. McDougall, in the forward line for Rupert made a nice try at Willier but Ihe latler was sound. Ernie Warren tried Willier with another beauty hut without ef fect. A few seconds before half lime the Ocean Falls forwards got through and Milchell placed a. hot shot past Hawthorn. Al half time Hie score was 1-0 in favor of (he paper makers. Second Half From the kick on Ocean Falls were conceded a" corner but nothing happened. The Rupert boys 'wer- very aggressive and by splendid combination worked the ball In within a dangerous disr tance of the Oceaii'Fails' goal McDougall, for Rupert, by clever individual play dribbled the. ball past several opponents and plac ed it well past Willier, thus even itig up the score. From then on it was a fast and furious bailie. Splendid sportsmanship prevailed Jnd the game was one of much interest. Though both teams 011- leavored o get "one' more" nol, an inch of quarter was civen on either side. and no further Uillics were made. The game ended in a draw 1-1. Criticism Every man on the field did his hit. The full back and half back line of paper makers worked like Irojans and fed their forward line well, the latler doing all that could reasonably be expected. Willier, in goal, played a ripe game. The Rupert hoys were nut to win laurels and were never seen at better advantage. Gaw-lliorn in goal played a cool and ellicient ganie while he was ably prolected by Harry Menzies and J. Harris al full back. Murray. I THE OTHE.K WM ONTIU I I CT OUT Tinker and Currie in the half back line rendered yconVan ser vice. The forward line was splendid R. McDougall and E. Warren playing an outstanding game. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Lineham are sailing lonight on the Prince. George for Vancouver on a holi day trip.
