INQUEST TODAY ON CARNAHAN Jury Finds He Came to Death by His Own Hand While Temporarily Insane Finding dial deceased oanve to his death by his own hand while temporarily insane, the coroner's jury in the case of Harry Carna- lian, who died in the General Hospital yesterday morning aflec having slashed his wrist wilh u safely razor blade in the city jail, attached no hlamc to any official but strongly reconvnijmd-i'd the police force he increased inasmuch as il was not in Hie interests of public welfare lo loave the jail without some one in attendance at all tiihos. The Tirst witness was I.um Yihg, a trusty prisoner in the city jail, who lold of finding deceased lying on the floor of his cell wilh a pool of blood on the floor. An alarm was raised and the janitor was called. Heard Shouting J. V. Exjey.eity, hall Janitor, (old of hearing shoaling from Ihe jail lo the effect that a rrrtui. was bleeding to death. He tried to gel inlo Ihe jail but found the door locked. A message was sent for tiie chief who arrived soon afterwards and opened the jajl. Dr. I remayne said that he re ceived- i message from Chief Vickers that a man had cut himself in Hie jail. He gave instruc tions that Hie man be taken lo the hospital. A gash was found on Ihe man's right arm. All the tendons and blood vessels on the front of the arm had been sever ed. He had practically no pulse, was in a dying condition and ex pired about 20 minutes later. Everything possible was done to save him. A safety razor blade was put in as an exhibit by the chief, Dr. Tremaync testifying lhalr il was quite sufficient to cause tho in juries that had been found. Found In Cell Chief Vickers testified as lo finding Carnahan in Ihe cell with the gash across his right wrist Dr. Tremayne, who was at the hospital at the time, was notified and the man was rushed to the hospital. Deceased was conscious when found but made no state mcnt. The safely razor Made was found on the col in the cell by one of the prisoners. Papers found on Ihe man's per son were simmmed. One was a letter from! his mjolhcr in Vancouver coulaining lit lie more than home news.
