June is about here and that is the beginning of summer. James Bussell .Lowell, the famous American poel, wrote: What is so rare as a day in June? f, . Then, jf ever, come perfect days. Then heaven tries Ihe earth ir it be in tune, ' , And over it gently her soft ear lays. ' Whether we look or whether we listen We hear life murmur or see it glisten. ' Every Hod reels a slir of might A something within it that reaches and towers . And searching blindly above it for light, Climbs (o a soul in grass and flowers. .. June is Ihe month when summer is youiig and lovely. It is the time of year when we are looking for unrmitr ., shine and Ihe outdoor life ahd when all nature conspires lo urmjf joy. .ii ' ' Modernists f In The, Church. . There is still a good deal of fuss being-made in the East about modernists in Ihe church. These modernists are the Nonconformists of today. They say it is not necessary to believe things Hint were set down n necessary hundreds of years ago. They openly scout adherence to'many of the churrliMisages and take it upon themselves to interpret scripture in their own way. Of course there is danger in all this. Those who hold to the obi beliefs say they do not mind the modernists preaching anything they wish as long as they do not use their churches for Ihe purpose. The difficulty is that in many cases the mem-hers of the congregation are as modem in their religious ideas a the new preachers. Many Preachers ' Use -Discretion. Many preachers of today who agree wilh the new developments are wise in holding back from loo much public expression. They say that it is necessary to carry the people along gently, gradually showing them the T)ow path. They conform outwardly to the orthodox way and yet now and then" the truth a tjiey, sen. it comes out and the congregation gels many a shock. TjM '.ltX Jnlv 0 gieat change is gradually taking place. Men of the lype of Dr. Fosdik are the effervescences'' of .modernism and not the thing itself. Life Relieved By Sense Of Humor. V "eiP of humor is the' greatest thing in life. It saves men and women from wearing themselves away menially or physically. It cheers Ihem and lightens their labors. Those who do nol have a sense of humor grow old quickly and, seldom really enjoy life. How ran they? To be able to see the humor in serious things is n n-renl relief Two rrten were out on a lwiatifrg Irip, They upset the craft.were. soaked to the skin, were Cold and almost hopelcio but the humor or the situation slruck them. They begnn lo laugh at each other and from that moment conditions improved The blood began to race, through heir veins ami very soon thev were happy and comfortable. Verily humor is a great relief ' A r They offered him a partnership if he could Inrcat little money. But he hadn't the money, and the opportunity w gone.
