DAILY KDITIOW Making Preparations For Big Business. , 98 86 Wednesday, Juno 17. 1925. When the grain elevator is built we naturally expect to do a great ueai more Mopping business than is being done May. The railway will handle very much more freight than it is now nauujiug and Hie company doubtless is getting ready for the oig event. There have been cases where railways have been caught napping, where" no preparations have been made to meet coming movements and the result has been disastrous. lu the autumn the first Japanese liner is to call here on a trial trip and it is undertood that if there is business the steamers will come here regularly. We wonder ir efforts are being made by the railway to collect freight for these vessels. If the (1P.U. could collect enough freight and passengers, over ninety per cent of which originated at points east of Vancouver, to keep the Empresses running regularly, even before Vancouver was anything more than a small town, it ought to be easy for the Canadian .National with their immense system to collect enough to keep the Japanese liners miming out of this port. Itnvould be interesting to know if any tep are being taken with this end in view. Why Compete When . Business is Here? Apparently the Canadian National fs mak'ing an effort to compete with the CP.R. on its own ground, when here there is a virgin port equipped to handle the business withoutiny opposition. Apparently the Nippon Yuen Kaisha is prepared to operate vessels here in conjunction with the railway company, to earn- its silk through this nort and to iln a - M ' ' II Mil I'W! The future of Prince Rupert seem to lie in a iieup with the Japanese lines. The Blue Funnel line has thrown in its J,,t with Vancouver. If there is real cii-operalion, the N.Y.K. can beat any of them out in point of time by using Prince Rupert. It plight be a good thing for tlie Board of Trade to get into touch with Hie Japanese company and find out if possible under what conditions they would come here and then put it up to the railway company. What we need is a transpacific line of steamships plying to this port i if order to make it really prosperous. Curious Views Of Many People. Many people have curious views. The fact is they do not agree with ours and therefore they are odd. If the views are similar to our they are perfectly sane and orthodox. There are id the world religious and irreligious people, (here are good and bad, light and dark, radical and reactionary, flippant and stolid, humorous and serious. They are born that way and will remain that way more or less to the end of their lives, t here is room for all and ail see'm to have a place A wide tolerance is desirable so that all may enjoy life in their own way , without lei or hindrance as Jong as they" do not interfere witli;heir neighbors; .
