The bravery of three Winnipeg warriors who fought with the Can adian forces during the World War, will be impressed upon posterity by a permanent and uniijue nlemorial. It was recently discovered that three of Winnipeg's sons "who earned the Victoria Cross bad! lived on the same slrecj, within a block of one. another; -during peate limes. Residents of the treel, determined upon honor ing their memory, petitioned the civic authorities for permission lo change the name of the street lo "Valor Road." The request was granted and on the initial live of the Womens' Canadian Club, a memorial lamp has been unveiled at the intersection of the newly-named street and Portage Avenue. Only one of the three returned at I lie cessation of hostilities, that being Lieut.-Col. Robert Sbankland. The other two F. LW. Hall and Leo Clark, paid the supreme sacrifice. The former was killed at the Ypres salient on April 23, 1015, and it was during this battle, in which the Canadians generally distinguished themselves, that he Won the Umpire's highest military honor. Leo Clark was posthumously awarded the V.C, for outstand ing bravery during the battle ol the Somme, in 101G.
