Election prophets tire vnr.mjiiff'up again,- and we" soon .shall be deluged with the .hsual fantastic claims of sweeping victories for both sides, says tin? VicturHi Times. -Already the Board of Strategy which operates the Conservative propaganda factory in Ottawa has started to inform listhal virtually every province in Canada will give Mr. Meighen an overwhelming majority. On the other hand Mayor Alederie 'Martin of Montreal a few days ago 'told readers of The Times that the Liberals would emerge from Ihe- campaign in triumph. He insisted that the Conservatives would not win more than une eat iii Quebec, where they iloy have four out of 05. Whatever may be thought of these prediction, there is one vhoe viewK can not be lightly pnsed over. This is The Montreal Star, Lord Albolstan's newspaper, the most powerful Conservative journal in Canada Early last May The Star derlared that under Mr. Meighen's leadership the Conservatives could not possibly be returned to power, and he urged that leader to give way. to one who could win. This Is what Lord Athiilstan said in His .newspaper, The Montreal Star: . u,Th'e Conservatives are at high-water mark in Ontario today. They cutinol posibly hopvjlo do much better in the Maritime provinces where there are! only six Liberals. The Progressive-Dunning union on the prairie, will leave them worse off west of Lake Superior. Yet in the present House they are seven short of a majority. i They must break into Quebec tir break to pieces on the Tocks of defeat: '"' Must we endure another. Conservative defeat and five more years of tariff uncertainty to convince Mn Meighen and his loyal friends'that lie stands in the way of success? If so, the result jnay be disastrous to the 1oniiiiioii. What will five years of Dunning not do? Not Much Change is Expected. The Matittoba Free Press, edited by Dr. John W. Dafoe, in an article scouting the claims' politicians of both sides, does .what it calls the "hard-boiled lint see a Conservative victory as a possibility, but thinks tile 'situation will be very much like that which has existed since j'asi election, but with the Liberals composing the largest group; Wedoubt if any e.perieni;ed;olcrvcr in the country without a political hxe to grind is ready to predict a victory for Mr. Meigheii,- largely for the reasons -net forth by Lord Atholstau last May.- Nothing has happened nitre then to alter the basis of the Atholstau opinion. 'The" fact that the Conservatives are trying to make capital out of the-o'uslimis disclosures, the investigation of; which has been copfjofed 'to Quebec ports, is keenly resented in that province, the' electors of which know that smuggling has been just as rampanUfur many years in every other province' and regard the tactics or Mh, Meighen as an attempt tit discredit their province iii'lhlvtes of Canada. Rainy Hollow Section This is the drainage basin of the Klehini ltiver, a tributary of the Chilkat ltiver, which flows into Chilkat Inlet, a branch of Lynn Canal, just below llainco, Alaska. A laiwe number or claims were staked in this area several years ago, but Its Inaccessibility prohibited much development, though some very promising showings or .gold ore, high-grade copper, and silver-lead ores were discovered. However, last year the Alaskan government completed an automobile road from llaineg to Pleasant camp on the British 2olumhia line, a distance or ii miles, including a -fine bridge across the Chilkat at Wells. Prom Pleasant Camp lo llainy Hollow, afl in British Columbia, It is 12 miles over, at one time, a fairly pood road, but which has dterioraled through disuse until now It is almost impassable. The renewal of this road to compare with Hi! Alaska road would make this section very accessible and encourage its exploration and de velopment and probably put the Maid or Erin on a shipping basis Taku River Section This is the drainage area of Ihe Taku ltiver, which Bows inlc ' fcitaull me neaa oi juku iniei, wiiicn m turn opens bp into Hlephens Passage, about 16 miles south of Juneau, Alaska. There i little or no available ground for slaking in either the Bear ltiver. Salmon ltiver, or Marmot lliverl valleys on the tide water alopes.
