This was decided by the council last night on an amendment of Alderman Casey to a motion moved by Alderman Brown that the tender be awarded W Philpott-Evltt Co. Alderman Brown explained that the utilities committee had cancelled the former order with Phllpott-Evltt as It was felt that the coal supplied was not up to the specification called for. He explained that it was decided to again call for tenders for 500 tons and Phllpott-Evltt Co. had tendered at $6.73. and Albert & McCaffcry $7.50. The tender of the Prince Rupert Coal Co was not considered as the class of coal tendered on was not suitable. The tenders of Albert & McCaffery and Phllpott-Eritt Co. were then considered ns it appeared that, while there was a great discrepancy in price. stUl there was a difference In the grade of coal. Alderman Brown explained that under the stardard of British thermo units there was a difference in the price of the coal of seven seats per long ton In favor of PhUpott-Evltt coal. The coal which they supplied contained 12.600 B.T.TJ.'s per pound while the coal of Albert k McCaffery contained 13.930 B.T.O.'s per pound. Figuring on this basis the coal of Phllpott Evltt Com- TIMBEK SALE X5793.
