AT JASPER PARK Event Was Fittingly Celebrated at C.N.R. Summer Resort JASPER NATIONAL PARK. July 5. Into the heart of the Rockies the radio carried the message of HI Majesty the ! King and the sound of the carillon bell ji the Canadian DaailnliM capital . To climax the celebration which Jasper gave as its share oT the 'national contribution towards the commemoration of the diamond JuWlee' 'of Confederation. 1 It was a picturesque celebration which gay riding cowboys dressed in their most colorful outfits accompanied by members of the Mounted Police and school children took part, forming the main portion of the parade which opened the celebration. Following the parade an address was delivered by Honorable Dennis Murphy of Vancouver. At high noon the Canadian flag was raised to the top of the flag pole in front of Jasper Park Lodge by Captain E. a. Freer, commanding officer of the Royal Northwest Police for Jasper National Park. He was accompanied by members of his staff and men of the force In full dress uniform. During the ceremony the Jasper Park Lodge Orchestra played "O Canada" and "God Save the King." In this afternoon field and track activities were held. A party of Western Canada newspapermen were guests at the lodge and they also took an active part in the festivities which closed In the evening with a dance and display of fireworks. SMITHERS Development work carried out during the past month on the Jessie group on Hudson Bay Mountain shows the property to be one of the very best In the entire section. The vein has been exposed for 1,000 feet with good gold andj sliver ore In all the workings. L. S. Mc- Gill, the owner, states that It Is not his Intention to work the propery himself but to turn It over to a mining com pany with sufficient capital to open up the many showings already found. The property lies five miles from Smlthers and two and a half miles from the rail way and its elevation Is 2,700 feet above the railway grade. V During the celebration at Smlthers there was on view one of the greatest collection of botanical and other specimens ever assembled In the province. It was gathered by Oustave Gervals of Hazelton who has made the work a hobby and who spent 22 -years In putting It together. It covers an area of J ,200 square feet. v The hlg street parade, marshalled by J. Mason Adams, was the "feature of. the Diamond Jubilee of Confederation cele bration here. Field and track sports as well as many novel attractions, crowded. the day while dances and concerts were staged In the evening. A community church service on Sunday brought the festivities to a fitting close. The cele bratlon was opened by Dr. H. C. Wrlnch, M.L.A. The annual field day in connection with Dominion Illustration stations Is being planned for July 14 and IS at Telkwa. In addition to the Stork cup, donated by Fred Stork of Prince Rupert, a cash award of $20, presented by D. D. Munro, will be offered for the best collection of grasses at the Smlthers ' Fall Fair this year. As a result of the Smlthers baseball team winning several games this season, the treasury of the Athletic Club has been enriched to the extent of (60.
