DAILY EDITION. $G.OO $7.50 Friday, June 10, 1927 SITUATION OF PRINCE RUPERT It is not an uncommon thing to hear people criticize the situation of Prinpe Rupert and remark that it should have been built at Port Simpson or some other point on the coast. And yet investigation shows that the locators of the townsite chose wisely and could not have done better. Considering the wonderful harbor, the accessibility, the nearness to the mouth of theSkeena River and to potential water power and taking into account the large available acreage and'the character of the townsite it is clear that no'better could have been chosen. Where the mistake was made was in allowing the lots to be sold and the money djverted to other purposes instead of being used for laying out streets and sewers, which should have been done at the inception of the city. Also there was a mistake in allowing the lots to be cut so small. Prince Rupert is the most central point to the industrial section of the north Pacific coast of Canada and as such will develop steadily and more rapidly as the country around develops. We are often advised to how do you start? do our own thinking, but , KAIEN ISLAND A GAME RESERVE It does not seem to be generally known that Kaien Island is a game reserve and that no shooting of any kind, even with 22 rifles, is uiiowea nere. mere are deer on the island and they are often shot by poachers because the law in respect to the park has. not. been propeny eniorceu. irom this time on, since the road across the island is being built, it is to be hoped that absolutely no shooting win oe anoweo ana mat tnosewno like to ramble through the island win ue protected irom the risk of being shot for a deer. mere is plenty ot room lor hunting without killing off the, few animals that have taken refuge on the island and these should De carefully watched to see that the poachers do not get them. ' . 1 y Some of the tobacco shop parliaments are wondering whether it will be Premier Pattullo or Premier Manson after Honest John lays down the leadership; They seem to be convinced it is Prince Rupert's turn at the wheel. r D6ING GOOD WORK FOR THE CITY The Railway Company is doing very good work for the city in clearing off the stumps from their park property and in establishing ornamental gardens at suitable points. The results should easily justify the effort. Prince Rupert people have not been slow to take advantage of the opening of the point of vantage on the top of Totem Pole Hill. 11 is seldom that there are not at least a few citizens enjoying the' woiiuenui view irom mat place. Doubtless this summer it will be used a great deal' by tourists, especially since the entrance to it has been made so attractive. SHOWING APPRECIATION OF SERVICES Complaint often made In Prjnce Rupert 'that employers do not show appreciation of the wotjk 'done for them. ;Vhen an employee leaves no. word , of praise Is given, it apparently beinjr thoujrht sufficient that the salaries or wajres have been paid. A case in point is the attitude of the school board in allowing teachers to leave without one word of praise for the good work done, often under most trying circumstances. A word of praise goes a long way and cheers and encourages an employee for many a day. Naturally there may be cases where praise cannot honestly be given but usually this is not true. Good work is the rule and poor work the exception. We are not criticizing the school board for lack of action but simnlv drawini? nttpntinn a chill over the future activities of whose who are leaving. iby.tinie, aiiytjax aflttcyear SHREDDED WHEAT For a delicious breakfast A bed-time snack of health And any hour between HANSON TELLS ABOUT MINES :ornci.i. or iieolooical si kvky 1CI.I.N UK I'ltOSI'KCTS IN POUT- " ...
