DAILY EDITION .1. POSITION OF RUSSIA A great many people blame Russia for the missionary work they are doing on behalf of Communism. However, it must be remembered that -a considerable section of the neoule there thorouirhlv be lieve In communism as something that will cure the ills of the race and being virile people they try to pass it on, just as our missionaries try to pass on Christianity to the rest of the world. The Russians in a way are to be commended for being willing to risk their lives to propagate something which they believe to be true. We may not like theii methods, which are often subject to grave- criticism, but at the same time we can irive them credit for 40 1' 4n .15 Saturday, Dec. 17, 192 .trying torry,ut yhat jhe believe -and beingawijjing to talteristy j and expflla1 energy in trying tr coiiwrthcfest of the'world. CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRAYER ROOK The controversy over the Prayer Rook of the Church of England is an interesting one and indicates the difficulty of a state church. Recently the governing body of the church completed the revision of the Rook of Common Prayer used in the churches throughout the country'- Some changes were made which are vital to a great many people, and then the book was sent to Parliament for its endorsation. The House of Lords endorsed it but the Commons refused to do so. The House of Commons in England is ma'de up' of people of many denominations and of no denomination. There are not only members of theftttate church but of almost every dienting Church as well as Roman Catholics. There are also some who openly profess to be agnostics or people who admit that they do not know. All these peoplWhave a right to pass upon the book used by the Church of England in regard to its statements of doctrine, its method of worship, its sacraments, its ritual, the ordainment of its clergy and variou matters which cannot possibly be of interest to anyone but the members of the church. King. Lords and Commons have to give-their consent before any change can be made. In this enlightened age such a condition cannot continue long. The High Church party have for half a century protested more or Jess feebly against the condition of affairs. At one time a protest was made against Queen Victoria being nominal head of the Church of England, when in England, hut a Presbyterian when in Scotland. Today the great theme for discussion n-Engl.nAJahjsr'ej Iigious question, an outcome of which was the recent pronouncement pf Bishop Barnes of Birmingham. The refusal of the House of Commonsfto accept the new Prayer Book has thrown the whole subject into, the field of debate and no one can tell exactly what the outcome Pwill be.
