COUNCIL TALKS PROTECTION FOR FISHING BOATS CO-OI'EIUTIOX OK V.MtlOl S ITULI9 AMI M:MI-ri IIL1C UOIIIKs TO i:m.istki Tne matter of providing shelter for the Itshlng fleet at Prince- Rupert was brought up at the meeting of the city council last night by Aid. Larson. He stated that he had been Informed that the matter had been discussed by the Deep Sea Fishermen's Union and also by the Boat Owners' Association and, la View of the damage hlch had been sustained in' the recent'blow.-he felt tt an opportune time to press -the claims of the city In that connection. He suggested a mass meeting of citizens to formulate" resolutions. . , Mayor Newton said that he agreed with every word that had been spoken oy- Alderman Larson and he Knew tnat the matter had received attention dur ing the past week and representations had been made to J. C. Brady. M P. Alderman Stephens was in entire sympathy with the suggestion that action be taken but felt that more might be accomplished by interesting the various public and semi-public bodies' in the city and having each one endorse strong resolutions. Sometimes a mass meeting with large numbers did not accomplish as much as smaller bodies. If the matter was left to the fishery committee of the city council would be able to co-operate with hese various bodies and secure action. Alderman Tinker agreed with Alder man Stephens that tt would probably be more effective to enlist the support of the various qrganlattlons? It was finally decided that the tnayor communicate with the Board, of Trade, Trades and Labor Council, Retail Mer-hcants' Association, Boat Owners' Association, Deep Sea Fishermen's Union, The Canadian Legion.
