IS OUR LOT AS HARD AS THIS? , When one considers stories of hardship and privation that come in daily from other parts of the world, the thought cannot be repressed that e,ven the poorest of us .here in Prince Rupert'may be pretty well off. This week two Oregon children, resident far up in the mountains, froze to death in the woods as their mother foraged for good. Many of us, who may grumble at our lot in life, mitrht bad that it THIS IS ST. PATRICK'S. DAY. , . All 4he world is Irish tb'day. Ireland is the only country in the world to,i;e its own particular hero venerated by Christian people.4 everywhere, and that is because'of the humanity of St. Patrick. A good and saintly man he was, to be sure, but a powerful, aggressive, yet kindly and loving charcater, too. He was the ideal Irishman, although long an exile from Erin. Perhaps it would be better to say that he who would be an idca,l Irishman uses St. Patrick for a model. Ireland has produced many poets, many statesmen, many noted clergymen, many famous warriors, but none who are held in such esteem as good old St. Patrick, and all because he had a great faith and an overwhelming sense of his duty to man and God and exercised them solely for the benefit of his adopted land and for the welfare of mankind everywhere. Today we wear a Shamrock in his honor and in our hearts we cherish a loving memory.
