ESB Saturday, May 21, 1927 :;V-" :?'. V DON'T .FORGET SALT LAKES Already this season the Salt Lakes have been used by those swimmers, who are willing to brave the elements and take a dipiahead of the rejjular visitors. Every warm day a few young people take a plunge, dwini around for a while and then rub down hastily and jump Into their clothes. Then they feel that healthy glow that comes as a result of healthful exercise. Owing lo the Salt Lake being outside the city limits, it is for the city to undertake work there but, up to the present, the Swimming Club has done good work, backed by the provincial gov eminent. It is probable y at this year will be no exception and that the Salt Lake Park swimming pool will be looked after. It is Prince Rupert's summer playground and is worth a great deal o the city. JJeing now neid as a jtupne park the public Is assured that it will always be theirs and that any work they do on it will be kept for the benefit of the people. It seems as if almost anybody can take a flier these days but only a few make a safe landing, Just like buying oil stocks. CAUSE OF UNENDING STRIFE As long as there is a boundary line between United States and Canada there will be friction owing to regulations against immigration on either side or customs regulations, Of late the friction has been accentuated by the fact that on one side is prohibition and on the other liquor is sold freely and special privileges are granted for export purposes. There is also irritation over visiting and immigration privileges because the United States does not want any more settlers. Customs regulations are always a nuisance, interfering with trade and increasing the cost of living. Without customs regulations,- Prince Rupert would today be a big city as it would be the shipping port for Alaska. Only those on the boundary, like Prince Rupert, can properly appreciate the annoyances of the boundary line. The friendship of Soviet Russia is something to fear.
