Brady, speaking In the House of Com- j mens recently; on a Pension Act amendment 'I refer to those returned aor-nleri- 1 mho are debarred by the statute limitations from obtaining a pension. Iof After they came back from the war they ! did not apply for a pension- for a period ! 1 01 years, and when they ,dW apply it was j too late. I realize that If the law were : I left wide open, many would apply who ; miKut not deserve a pension; nevenhe- I less these men to whom I refer wen I big enough and patristic enoug to join ' the colors when the country needed I them, and because they did not apply ! for a pension within a certain pertcd , altr their return, today wme of them ' altnough incapable of working, are out- I ttiij. Miir "I ,:now of a case or two where a returned soldier is dependent on the charity of the provincial government and is an Inmate of a convalescent ! 'ioue Those men are there, dependent on chanty, simply because they did not j ask for a pension within the time re- j quired. They are there as the result of their war service, but they are abso-; 'utely outside the pale of any consider- 1 atiun under the present law. I do not blame the government be- I believe in the statute of limita tion, but I do aay that in this year of our diamond jubilee these particular cases should be considered. Some of these returned men today are physically unable to carry on even the common .unctions of life. Surely the government should listen with respect to the advice of the medical authorities who vouch tor theee cases and provide some relief (or these deserving men. I aptfal to the minister to give this matter his most serious consideration, and see if relief cannot be provided this session for these oases that are debarred otherwise from relief."
