McMordle. W. J. Earl Barrle' and Dr. H. L. Alexander, asking, on behalf of the Rotary Club for permission toVrtabllsh two tennis courts for young people on city property at the northeast corner on Sixth Avenue and McBrlde Street, wa given a favorable answer by the city council last night. The request was introduced In a letter from W. J. Earl Barrle, chairman of the boys' work committee 6f the Rotary Club, which stated that there was an In crease In the number of boys and girls taking up tennis but that facilities in the city were Inadequate. The club asked permission to erect two or more courts on the site referred to without any expense to the city. It was proposed to form a Junior tennis club after the courts had .been built. Speaking to the request, Mr. Barrle pointed out that there, were only three courts In the city and these were used by adults to capacity. If Its request for a site was met, the Rotary Club planned giving tennis facilities more exclusively for the younger people. The originator of the proposal was Col. McMordle whom Mr. Barrle called upon to address the council. Col. McMordle referred to the fact that. In many cities, the municipalities stood the entire burden of providing such recreational facilities. The Rotary Club was, however, cognizant of the city of Prince Rupert's financial position and the city was toeing asked only to grant the site, the club to do the rest. With the club taking some ninety feet immediately next to the Masonic Temple, a ground some 100 by 13S feet would be left which it wat felt would be adequate for .the continuance of Junior sports such as baseball and football. It was by no means the desire of the club to displace Uiese youngsters. Tills yeur the club was prepared to put LAND ACT. NOTIIK OF INTENTION TO API'I.Y TO LEASE I. Nil. Three mouudxrnen were hit freely and fielding was not all that Could be desired. However, there, was lots of fun for the fair crowd of fans which was In attendance for the two hours the even-Inning match was In progress. The win of the Orotto was something In the nature of snatching victory out of defeat for the Sons had a 12-3 score over them at the end of the second frame. Dido Ourvlch was batted out of the tobacconists' box and Jack McNulty took up the task, holding the Sons scoreless for the remainder of the game. In the third Inning the Grotto men found their batting eyes and forced Slocotnb from the box for Alex Duncan who came from the benches. It was too late, however for the Sons, to retrieve theAiselves and when the smoke of battle cleared the Orotto was out on the long end. Will.
