'Published Every Afternoon, except Sunday, by Prince Rupert Daily News, Limited, Third Avenue. H. F. PULLEN - - Managing Editor. Wednesday, April 20, 1J)27 MOST VALUABLE INDUSTRY HERE. The opening last week by His Excellency, the Governor-General, of the new electrical power equipment which has been installed during the winter at the plant of the Canadian Fish & Cold Storage Co. at a cost of some $100,000, brought this important industry once against into the limelight. Built some eighteen years ago at the inception of this city, the big establishment at Seal Cove has apparently justified itself and the visions of the Old Gountry capitalists who backed the undertaking have been to some extent, at least, realized; What is more imporfant, however, to everybody in Prince Rupert is the fact that all through the years this plant has been operated continually and, directly, or indirectly, has provided(work for a large number of residents, thus contributing to the prosperity of the community. So far, thta plant of the Canadian Fish & Cold Storage Co. unlike .many local projects and undertakings, has operated in season and out. Many other big undertakings have been heralded with much acclaim and hopefulness but the Cold Storage, which has run along so quietly yet steadily for many years, has probably been of more benefit to the port than any of them. Without it, Prince Rupert might have fyeen in sore straits on more than one ' . ' occasion. THE ESSENCE ' OF GENIUS. Two hundred years ago this year Sir Isaac Newton, a genius if there ever was one, died. One mark of his genius or uniqueness was that he seemed never to have suspected himself of being in the least different from the general run of mankind. , Honors came to Sir Isadc in ample measure, even in his life time, He called them symbols of. good luck or mere rewards of industry and patience. Modestly, he. compared himself to a boy gathering pebbles on the shore of the vast, unknown ocean of truth. But mere patient industry, that familiar infinitude t)f pains, does not adequately label the springs of this man's genius. As a distinguished British mathematician put it: "We must surely add in extreme measure the much rarer' capacity for not taking pajns or wasting time over lines of thought that lead nowhere, the capacity of choosing the right course by a clear vision emanating from sound knowledge." Few human beings fail to suspect themselves at some period of 'their lives of being geniuses. Although the idea languishes with time, as so many genial illusions are likely to do, enough of it siir-J vives to make one curious about what this thing called genius really is and about why it happens. Until the genius of the discoverer of the law of -gravity was diagnosed, this thing called genius was defined as an infinite capacity for taking pains. Ai The difference between the genius on one side and the poor bungler and ordinary plodder on the other seems, therefore, to be that the one has, and others lack, the gift of knowing just what to take Infinite pains in doing jar seeking after.
